Looking for a Yamaha SRX600 Single.......

Title says it all, looking for a rare Yamaha made here in the US for one year only - 1986. Here is some info on the cycle:

If another cycle lover has a lead on one it'd be greatly appreciated. There is one on Ebay now, in CA, and one that recently went for $3500 (too much!) that is on Cycletrader. If someone can turn one up I'll make sure you get one of the really cool 3D high detail GT40 crystals I've got on the way.

Thanks!
Ron

Ron,
I've seen several on eBay as they come up in my searches for an "original" Yamaha SRX ('76-79 SRX sleds). Something about singles that big...must be the way they disarticulate your shoulders just off idle.

The cool thing about that engine is you can really make them sing. I saw one about 5 years ago that made 74 rwhp - basically the same as my TDM850 was making and a lot of the Ducati 900s that day. Thing is, it weighed about 335 lbs (it was lightened) while everything else was well over 400 lbs. Lots of power for a single and handles like a mountain bike = lots of fun just commuting while pulling down good gas mileage.

Sorry Ron, can't help. Glad to see there are some other bike nuts on here too though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Scott, is that a 996 or 998 in your avatar, and is it yours ?
I can't realy tell from the pic, but it looks like a 998R.

Lovely !

Cheers,
John. (996,998 & ST4S in the garage, among others)

I've found a very nice stocker in Tennessee, not too far from me. Might pick it up. If I pay $2000 for the bike, and gas is $2.50 a gallon, then I've calculated if I ride it to work 296 times it'll pay for itself.

but Ron you're not allowed to count just driving there for fun to get the miles up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Are you trying to convince us, yourself or "the Boss"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Got one! Only took a couple of months but I got a good base to start with. Let the fun begin! My goal is to get it sort of like this but with a strong motor:

John,
I'm pretty sure that is a 998. I have a lowly 916 w/ a few mods. It only has about 2400 miles as I don't get to ride much /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks Scott, just wondered if it was yours.
No such thing as a lowly 916, they are all gorgeous imo.
Don't forget to keep an eye on those cam belts if your not riding it much. They age and according to Ducati should be changed every two years regardless of mileage. A broken belt will destroy the engine...

I've just sold my 996 - buyer is coming to collect it on Friday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ron, that looks lovely too. Can't wait to see the pics of your one when its finished /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
