Mirror GT40

Hi,

I am in the process of finishing off details on my GT40 refurbishment which includes paint.
I do not want the GT-mirror look on the side mirrors, but a more mordern sleek looking mirror.
I have seen the below picture. Does anyone know which car / model this mirror is from. I have tried to contact Hillbank - where I have sourced the picture from, but the contact person there does not know where it is from.

They look kind of like RX7 FD3s mirros, but the stem looks longer on the one mounted on the car below.

Can you guys help?

thanks,
J

Some use C6 Corvette mirrors, although I am not home to take pictures of the mirrors I have. Mine are C7 Corvette.

Thx much for sharing. They do look good. Not too expensive. Hard to find a pair, but plenty of both sides available on eBay. What are you using for the control panel and how are you mounting it?

Jesper, I am considering a pair like these but am concerned of their adjustability and possible quality. In my opinion, they have the right curves and roundness to compliment the ‘60’s styling of the GT-40.

Copies of the Vitaloni Californian, which are period correct. I don't know about these but on my Viltaloni's I was able to dremel the socket to get a greater view angle on the passenger side.

That was my MK II, GT40P2171. The mirrors were on the car when I bought it from the original owner. I was at the Buffalo Motorama with the car when I was approached by a guy who introduced himself to me and thanked me for using his mirrors. He runs a "hot rod supply" company and said they manufactured them. They look good but were difficult to adjust and as mounted didn't really provide the field of vision needed. I don't have any info on where to purchase them as that was ten years ago.

Those are reproductions of the Vitaloni Californian mirrors. You can still get the original Vitalonis which can be had with convex lenses to improve the field of view.

im using the mirror control switch from a merc:
R170 slk 1996 to 2004 part no. 1298200610
plenty on ebay here in UK.
Try to get one that comes with attached plug and wires.

Simple connection to mirrors
plus and ov to switch and a plus from 'side light switch' if you want it to light up!!
then 3 wires to left mirror and 3 wires to right mirror

if you proceed and want wire diag drop me direct message ?

mounting it ?
do you mean control switch for mirrors, if so then square hole needed somewhere in dash panel.

Thx much. I am liking the idea of bring able to adjust while sitting in the car, especially being able to change from highway driving to parking.

I had Vitaloni Californias on a Pantera. Look very cool - and pretty worthless in terms of being able to see with them. Especially the left side of the car. In order for them to really function, they have to be well ahead of the driver up on the fender which looks ridiculous. I put stick-on convex round mirrors on the Vitaloni glass to even make them useable. Just make sure you check the usefulness of these types of mirrors before drilling holes!

Lee, yes, where the mirrors were mounted on P2171, they looked good but couldn't be adjusted to give a proper field of vision.
