Movit Brakes

Is anyone using or has anyone seen these brakes on a GT40?

Bill,
Those are nice looking brakes. The only thing I see is that one little word "Billet" which translates into super mega bucks... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bill,

They certainly look Schweeeet don't they. Have you requested a quote from them? Are the prices as Schweet as the appearance?

I think I will ask about my 85-87 C4 fronts and 88-92 C4 rears. I have had other brake vendors give me the what are you smokin' look when I asked for the best rears that they had and sort of middle of the road fronts ;-)

I also noticed that I got a error when I tried to look at Movit North America, so I am assuming there is not a dealer over here yet.

Regards,
Lynn

Bill, they certainly are nice, but the lack of a domestic support network will undoubtedly make them difficult to use. From my perspective, the components that have been the closest to my desired spec requirements have been STOPTECH,
http://www.stoptech.com/, but alas the local guys refused to return my calls and when I called the factory they had zero interest in my application, when pressed I was told that the NRE would be HUGE $ 00,000 !!!!!! to get them on to my '40.

I remember when mov.it were jsut a big vendor for brembo brake kits (mainly in Germany). If they are making their own calipers then great but some of these applications look like painted brembos only.

Chuck

They only have limited applications. For the corvette crowd only 97 and 98 front upgrades with one size each 332x32 and 335x32 shich limits them to 17" wheels. They do have drawings to check for wheel clearance. Some of the dealers are BMW or Viper dealers. In the S.E. the dealers are in Hilton Head, Cary, Charlotte and Ashville, with a few in Florida.

Bill,

The matrix I have has applications for a number of year models. That said, I doubt all of these will work with stock wheels. There are remarks in German that I haven't figured out yet. For Corvettes, below are fitment, caliper ids and part numbers for the 85-87 fronts and 88-92 rears that I am interested in. Are you saying these are wrong?:

Front......304x32........330x34.....380x32
...............4S2............4M6.........6M1
Corvette..08 034........08 030.....08 613
85-87......08 035

Rear............299x24.....322x32
...................4M1........4M2
Corvette.......08 027.....08 035
88-90...........08 028

I only saw two dealers listed in the USA. One was for Impalas only and the other was someone selling a garage system in NJ. Can you give me the name of the dealer in Cary? Bye the way, when I asked about dealerships the reply was, "You have 25% discount if you want to start selling MOVIT in the states." So, I guess I am not surprised there are more.

Lynn

Lynn I am not sure what some of the abbreviations mean (I think SV=SpurVerbreiterung which means wheel spacers) but I will give it a try:

"für orig. 16" Felgen nur 322x32 mm mit 25 mm SV ( 14.299 )"
-for original 16" rims only 322x32 mm with a 25 mm wheel spacer

"Kit Nr. 08 004/5 322x32 / 4s3 nur mit orig. Felgen 9,5x17" mit integr. 10 mm im Topf u. langen Radbolzen",
-Kit Nr. 08 004/5 322x32 / 4s3 only with the original rims 9.5x17" with an integrated 10mm wheel spacer in the hat and long wheel studs

"für Zubehörfelgen Kit 08 001 verwenden ( Topf ist flach ohne Spurverbreiterung)"
-For aftermarket rims use kit 08 001 (hat is flat without wheel spacers)

"HA 299 mit 15 mm SV, HA 322x32 ohne SV mit geteilter Scheibe u. neuen Handbremssätteln, *08 401 mit 318x28 mm Scheibe"
-HA 299 with a 15mm wheel spacer, HA 322x32 without wheel spacers and a 2-piece disc and new parking brake calipers, *08 401 with a 318x28mm disc

Hope this helps a bit

Lukas,

Thank you very much! The last line is the one I was most interested in as I knew it was saying something about the hand brake, Handbremssätteln, but I couldn't quite get the full meaning.

I am presently trying to find the biggest, baddest rear brakes for the 88-90 C4 Corvette to suite the mid-engine arrangement of the GT40 and put the braking power where the weight is.

The de-emphasis of the rear brakes is one of the issues I see with using braking systems designed for front engine cars on a GT40 such as the Corvette system used on several models. The other issue I have is with the design of the master cylinder. I have raised this issue before, but no one has given an explanation of how one should work around the issue. The problem, as I see it, is that the master cylinder has a built in biasing valve to favor the front brakes. In my braking system, another biasing valve is placed on the front brakes line to counteract the built in biasing valve. This seems counterintuitive and counter productive to me and there ought to be a better way of doing it than having two mechanisms fighting each other.

I would appreciate any comments from anyone even if it is to say you agree or disagree with my concerns. Obviously, I would love to hear from someone who might think they have a solution to this perceived dilemma.

Thanks,
Lynn

Hi Lynn,

What type of master cylinder are you using? On my DRB we use dual master cylinders for the brakes so biasing adjustments are much more straight forward. Would it not make more sense to change to this type of system (standard race car type)?

Pete

Last I checked, the Corvette arrangement was "standard"
DRB and the Tilton arrangement was an extra cost option.
I'm also going to use the Tilton in my DRB.
Looks so cool and is fully adjustable.

Dave,

Mike is exactly right. The Sabre uses a Corvette master cylinder with hanging pedals. I don't believe there is room in the pedal box for twin masters without a major redesign and rebuild of the pedal box. I have no issue with a single master cylinder, it is the built in bias adjuster that I have an issue with.

My wife's cousin is the head mechanic for one of the counties down near Miami and he suggested reversing the lines: take the ouput that normally feeds the front brakes and route it to the rear and vice versa for the front. If anything this might be slightly over biased to the rear which could again be compensated for with the Wilwood balance valve that is now used in the front, but I think it would only be needed for very fine adjust vs reversing the whole bias as output from the master cylinder as per normal hookup.

What do you guys think? Does anyone have opinions on the biggest, baddest C4 rear brakes to use??

Regards,
Lynn
