This time London. Van and knife attack. Three dead many injured.

Wearing 'fake suicide belts. Cowardly wankers.

As always, I sincerely hope no friends or relatives of gt40s members were involved and condolences to those families who have suffered bereavements...:worried:

I have no answers to this and suspect it will continue for many years. I feel dreadfully sorry for today's youngsters having to grow up with this kind of fear, but I guess that's partly the objective...

My question is when are the so called leaders of the west going to wake up to the fact that single 18 to 35 year old males are NOT bloody refugees.
maybe as a friend of mine mentioned today we should be running amok in their so called exclusive ghettos, run a few of their innocents down and see how they like it.
I know its not the answer, but it would certainly get their attention.

It has happened John, a couple of years back in Birmingham but as often the case it was young innocents that got hurt first. It's also the kind of reaction they're trying desperately to provoke. A race war - that would suit them nicely as their gloves would be off and we'd still be wearing 3 fingered mittens.

Right now I'm waiting for the "racist card" being played here because of my thread title, but when they (the London perps) go into their attack mode shouting "This is for Allah!" Then yes, I think the title is entirely justified, appropriate and accurate, so there..

As do we all.

Would widespread concealed carry end terrorist attacks? Obviously not. Might it greatly reduce the number of victims? What would logic dictate? (Never mind the talking points and "p.c." - LOGIC. )

Would refusing to allow into one's country anyone - including refugees - whose background cannot be completely verified/cleared/vetted cut down on the number of terrorist attacks? What would logic dictate? (Never mind the talking points and "p.c." - LOGIC. )

LONG TERM, ending the attacks probably will take Imams and Mullahs telling radicals they're going to hell for killing innocents...since going to hell is the only thing they seem to fear.

In the meantime, I'm personally not above the West adopting Gen. Pershing's alleged "pig's blood" solution/tactic in dealing with the scumbags.

Now look what you've done Larry - you've made normally mild Malcolm erupt with a (mildly) concerned viewpoint!

I do appreciate that you've retrenched a degree or two from the CCW issue as a solution, but pigs blood? Are you serious?

Please don't answer that. I'm kind of being somewhat sarcastic but I have no words for these deeds whatsoever, and rhetoric is not a roadmap to peace.

People told us before 'Gulf 2' that this would be a likely outcome, and did we listen?

From my point of view, this is one of the reasons that GWB & TB should be indicted..

Ok. Please post further comments on Politics Thread. We've already gone too far here (my fault).

I go to the Boroughs every time I'm in London which is a lot lately. In the US I would be walking around with my Glock under my belt and would use it if I had to in a moments notice. Unfortunately, I don't have the same freedom to protect myself and those around me while I'm in the UK.

PS where are the soldiers in London? When I'm in Paris or Brussels I see heavily armed military on the streets. It took 8 minutes for police to arrive I read somewhere. By that time the damage is done. Also, when will they install barriers on the bridges that separate foot traffic from autos? I think they have them on Tower Bridge but not Westminster or London if I remember?

Well Keith, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's most likely a duck, and that's not profiling or racist. Some would prefer to die while holding their bleeding heart rather than offend, and that is ridiculous and stupid.

On the news yesterday, they showed said barriers have just been installed on this or that bridge/bridges...but I got in on the tail end of the story and didn't hear which one/ones.

Carry in peace draw and fire to protect yourselves and the ones around you when seconds count police are only minutes away. It is your responsibility to protect yourself the only way a policeman can os if he is standing by you with a gun. From my cold dead hands I refuse to be a subject or a victim.

Many businesses mistakenly prohibit CCW on premises whether they had them or not. I get a kick out my Brit friends when I describe my arsenal. They honestly think it's like the Wild West over here. When you outlaw guns then only outlaws will have them. An armed society is a polite society. Each society can define their own rules and each must then live with the consequences good and bad.

My greatest concern is the shifting of responsible gun use in the situations noted above. I see a disturbing trend that I'm concerned will result in reduced accountability for gun use if, for example, a bystander is injured or killed during a gunfight. Getting wounded or killed by a careless, but well intentioned CCW carrier, should not be any different than any other careless use of a weapon, but I feel we are headed in a direction that will change that. That would be where we head back to the "wild west".

With that said, I ask if we are drifting toward another string, and away from this string's original discussion.

I would point out that these Islamist terrorists were armed with knives, not guns, probably due to the difficulty in obtaining firearms in the UK. If guns were freely available then I've no doubt that is what they would have used and the carnage would have been considerably greater. Automatic weapons are more easily obtained on the Continent (smuggled from ex Iron Curtain countries) hence the events like the Bataclan in Paris.

I'm perplexed by the notion that an armed society is a polite society.

How odd.

Edgy perhaps but not relaxed and polite I'll wager.

As regards the question "where are the armed soldiers?" - he was off duty that day.

Seriously though, with a population of 68 millions upwards and at a time of year when there are so many events and foreign visitors, I would not have thought that Borough Market would have been high on the list of priority areas to 'protect'.

Everyone (should) know that the presence of armed troops on the streets only serves to reassure the public and whilst it can possibly be seen as a deterrent, the nature of these attacks is sudden, unannounced up close and personal. I doubt whether we have many members of the military that would be currently trained to such a degree as to be 100% effective if such an attack took place within a squaddies range of vision in a crowded area and God help any brave citizen who pulled a weapon (for defence or attack) in the vicinity of a soldier or armed police. I speak of course only for the UK.

Such training & experience will come slowly and there will probably be many more incidents such as this to come and I also predict a rapid and exponential increase in the number of Happy Hereford Campers - they will eventually play a very key role in squashing these bugs.

But it's ok, it appears as if the keyboard pundits have a handle on it... :)

I think that it should be pointed out that given the will to cause bodily harm or death the outcome can be greater (Paris truck) or less (UK van & knife) depending on the ingenuity and luck of the perpetrator. If someone wants to kill, it doesn't matter what the weapon is. I would be much happier possessing a gun if something happened than depending on the response of law enforcement. 5 to 10 minutes is a lifetime.
