Hey all I'm just out here doing some data mining for a project I just picked up. Its a barn find, its a N Forman P4 kit. It was brought state side about 10 years ago and has been sitting since. Right now I'm looking at motor transaxle options. It currently has a g50 in it, which depending on the motor, I may keep but I may have to upgrade to perhaps a Mendeola transaxle.

As far as motors, I'm leaning towards the ford 3.7 V6. 305 hp and 280 tq is good for me. I'm actually going to be racing it in a classic 60/70's tribute car class on the west coast.

Here are some pics for you guys.

Welcome DrArwender, I assume this is your real name if not please re-review http://www.gt40s.com/forum/introduce-yourself-here/27555-rules-gt40s-com.html

I assume you have contacted Car builder solutions, as it is Neil Foreman who owned NF Auto who probably made this (before they sold the project and concentrated on the parts supply business). They can be found here: Car Builder Solutions | Kit Car Parts, Tools and Accessories. Kit Car repairs and painting they also have a link to their P4 blog here: CBS Ferrari P4 Build

For other help, you may want to contact Fran Hall at RCR, as he has a P4 option in his stable of great cars and may be able to assist in some areas.

Hi Doc and welcome.

If I didn't have a GT40 a P4 is the shape I would pick. Here are a couple of pics I took last year at the Oulton Park historic meeting. This car was in the paddock but not racing. I could not find the owner to ask about the car but it seemed to have an alloy body and the go bits were all Ferrari with white exhaust pipes- very nice too.

Cheers
Mike

Cool project! That's also my second-favorite candidate for building a replica. Let us know if we can help. If I had a V12 I'd donate it. Well, not really, but it's the thought that counts.

BTW you might want to hang around the RCR forum since Fran makes a P4 as well, and there are some shining examples represented there. http://www.gt40s.com/forum/rcr-forum-rcr40-slc-p4-mkiv/

I have been looking around, my main issue is the motor and trans. I am looking to running enduros 4,6 and possibly the 25 hours of Thunderhill. My thought right now is that 300-350 hp/ tq would be fine in a 2000 lb. race car. Also I know that over 400 tq and most transaxles will eventually brake in endurance racing. This has been well documented with Team PDR running an LS powered GTM for many years. That is unless I feel like dropping $15k on a high end transaxle. Thats all fine and dandy but remember I'm a racer and that means I would need TWO $15k transaxles, just in case one breaks at the track.

If I was going to build a non track car, I would probably just pick up a wrecked Ferrari, but right now I prefer wheel to wheel racing and I have learned that especially in endurance racing your better off running off the shelf factory parts for longevity and ease of replacement. There have been many events when we had to send a team member to NAPA auto parts for something random that you would never thing you would need.

Alan where on the Peninsula are you from? I'm in San Carlos.

DrA,

San Carlos, I grew up in Menlo Park, now we are in Saratoga, I would love to check out your car sometime. One of our regular posters has two or three of those P4, P4-5 cars, very nice stuff, keep an eye out for his posts.
