For the Australians, and international fans of V8 Supercars...

Classic. Craig Lowndes with hair!

Great PR Video! They will race at Circuit of Americas May 17-19. I may take the drive down to Austin after work that Friday....

I became a fan when Lowndes drove the GEM. Privateer against the factories - good Aussie underdog stuff.

Then came parity rules which to me, emasculated the entire series...

Now Red Bull? It will become a one maybe two car series..

All in all..... :(

(Good launch teaser though )

Very interested to see how this years series progresses. I am not sure how it will roll not much factory content left in the cars these days.
I liked the green eyed monster aswell. I guess Lowndsey is banned from driving his Cortina again?

IMHO it has become to much like NASCAR with pretty much the same chassis and differentiated only by the paint.
Hopefully the new season will get my interest back..
Casey Stoner is driving a Red Bull triple eight car in the development series.

I'm with you Pete. Really looking for the Nissans and Mercedes to inject some interest back into the series. The current "premier" series in NZ are the SuperTourers which are identical chassis and Chevy engines with just a Ford or Holden Body tacked on... Just can't muster any interest in watching them. At least we still have a very active classic car racing scene here....

Can't help but agreeing with you. The cars have become too regulated and the emphasis has gone from being really inovative with what you have to "How can I cheat the best with this regulated car".
Certainly from a tyre aspect it has not encouraged Dunlop to produce something better:- the performance of their tyres in enduros like Bathurst was nothing should of crappy. If there the tyre selection was free they would sure pull their socks up.

I hope the introduction of the Mercedes and Nissan will spice it up a bit, but not holding my breath.
I am curious to see how the Mercedes and the Nissan both running thirty-two valve engines will go against the pushrods that Ford and Holden run. My gut feel is that even though they should be same peak horsepower, maybe the thirty-two valve engine should pull better out of corners.
Maybe its time for Ford to get a Coyote into the picture and maybe GM could dream up a thirty-two valver also

Stone brothers are playing their cards close to their chests so far as there hasn't been any public information about testing or how car looks as yet. I am keen to get a look at the new Mercedes just out of curiosity

For all the kiwis maybe they need to look at OSCAR or the old All-comers for some inspiration in their formula ????

Their workshop is about a 3 iron from mine, so will keep you posted if anything new is visible from the front gates ;)

Was just speaking with another 'OLD' racer the other day about this, the current Supertourer/TRS/TL series is a shambles, heaps of supertourers as Brian mentioned, all same chassis & running gear with body style/manufacturer of choice draped over it, Three ' NEW' TRS cars to date -one Toyota & two Holdens, and about six of the old NZV8's [ Ford/Holden] had a look inside an older NZV8/TL car recently, so much for a 'controlled' series, ~0.150"-0.200" machined off the deck face of the 302 SBF blocks- special order $$$$ pistons & pushrods to make that work, hours of machining to get inlet manifold to match, absolutely daft, parity is the buzz word, you feel the 'buzz' in you wallet. yes something based on the 'OLD' OSCA regs[ non-spaceframe ] would encourage a lot more diversity & that good old kiwi #8 thinking.

Pfft, I haven't watched V8s for years, not even Bathurst.
Not likely to again either.
IMO they have ruined racing in Australia.
Too much like NASCAR in more ways than one.
To increase their horror at my absence - my kids, their target audience, can't stand it either.
We just hang out for muscle-car masters and F5000 revivals. :D

Long live historics!

Wherever racing is a sport and a passion, and not JUST a business, that's where you will find us.
