Original MK1 GT40 for sale; Bill&Bob Thread

Larry Megibow and the "Glass Car Company"

Thank You,guys for remembering all this for me.

If it wasn't for doctors we wouldn't be having this conversation,Jimbo.I'm having a hard time dealing with this, obviously. It's kinda stressful making the decision to pull the plug on yourself.Your family is there,my son and my best friend were living on two couches in the hosp. room. The doc gave me a zero % chance of making it.Then you don't die.....Sometimes I think I did.I did massive damage to everything and it's all playing out now.Boo Hoo.I seem to be the only baby boomer that doesn't need Viagra or Cialis.I've seen so many commercials for anything. At dinner time.

There's a lady on Yahoo home page right now
who flatlined for 45 minutes and miraculously came back to life.
I got her beat by 30 minutes...

In 67 I was 16,5 high schools as a fresh. and 3 by Nov of Soph year.I quit wasting time and went to work.I didn't watch TV, American or Brit. The closest thing I can remember was a writer named John Forsythe, whom I never read.I was the black sheep of a REALLY wealthy family and never asked or got a dime.
If there is something enlightening about your series, please don't refrain from telling me.
My favorite job was as a Bug Runner.I drove an old blue tank truck that had a picture of a cockroach with a bindlestiff looking over his shoulder being chased by a blue truck with a.........Escher......We'd drive around nice neighborhoods spraying trees for Gypsy Moth infest.Little kids used to scream Bug Runner,Bug Runner.I always wanted to stop the truck and spray em.

Kind of an inside joke. My GT40 has a Mark I chassis, built by David Brown. It was completed by Safir in Ohio and got its chassis number from them- it has Safir GT40 uprights and some other Safir items in it as well. I'd forgotten I put that in the profile. I probably ought to change it. Interestingly, because David used original drawings to build the chassis, it has the old-style suspension dimensions, not the later ones worked out by, I think, Alan Mann Racing.

Then again, it's "one of one".....:) Maybe I'll just leave things as is....

If it was mine,I'd leave it.It got me thinking.
Is the car completed??It sounds really interesting. They were all kind of one of one,in retrospect. It seems like it would be hard to find somebody in the British racing buis. that wasn't involved with them, one way or another.Chapman was into - weight = +horsepower.I'd been told the Europa came from a proto.I think Lola was basically the victim of choice.
When I was 15,16 me and a buddy were building slingshot dragsters on a jig we bought off an oilpatch welder. We'd take Mopar hemi,s,powerglide trannys, and David Brown rear axles from Jags.He was,at the time also building farm tractors,I think. The rear ends were indestructable. The axles were almost impossible to cut and spline. They were hardened all the way through, not case hardened.GM 8-71 blower from a dump truck, sheet metal scattershield,a football helmet with the chinguard lopped off and it was off to the races. We used to get in the dumpsters and get the slicks guys like Don Garlitz used to throw away.Drill a hole the size of a pencil eraser and you were good to go.NHRA wasn't very diligent, back then.I've pulled em off the rims before.Long Island,Jersey,Pocono were big.
I saw a picture on here some Sheik has built.A black one. It's so beautiful I had to go out and look at my GT.What a timeless beautiful car.The Iron Sheik

That would be Faili's car. It was built from a GTD kit, and it was beautifully finished if not a little on the 'bling' side, which was his bag. He regretfully sold it a few years ago, but is a tribute to the kind of quality you can extract from a replica 'kit' with a lot of hard work.

Charley Farley's reference to The Forsyte Saga, is a tip of the hat to your extensive and fascinating experiences which you are relating here.... ;)

Why hello,Colonel !
I hope you are well.It seems that I'm running off at the mouth, here. It's the last time I'll ever get to say a lot of stuff and I'm writing it to see it in print.I'm from a very successful family who has made every effort to make me the black sheep, rightfully so,I'm afraid. If anyone wants me to shut up,I understand and will do so immediately.I'm just trying to leave here with my affairs in order and it's not as easy as I thought. My physical cond. is making it difficult as well.My artificial leg has been un-cooperative,changing sizes constantly, relegating me to be bedridden constantly.Having to type one handed also is a pain.
Even my wifes family has helped the general population. My father in law invented a paint during WW II to help planes land at night without fixed lights on the ground. You see it every day,the lines in the road, every sign, etc, etc.Tiny glass beads refract light.Flex-O-Lite in St.Louis,originally.Now worldwide.PD Law. My dad,my brother, all have invented things you use daily. Not Popiel Pocket Fisherman stuff, but important things. My dog will probably cure the common cold before I bail.

This is your very own thread Bill, so you can do as you please mate.

Post away!

I'm afraid I don't even know what a thread is,but thank you.It was you that had the severe COPD,wasn't it?If so,I hope you do what you can without being further injured..
I started researching the net forums to try and find someone who has experienced the same thing I have.No luck, just a bunch of.........people complaining about their lot in life. That doesn't sound right.I'm not demeaning anyone intentionally, but it's coming off like that.I'm having psychological issues, maybe even religious ones.Suicide is not my style,so I feel pissed entertaining the thought.CONSTANT pain is not what I had in mind when I set out to see my beautiful country.I miss my beautiful river, the Hudson.I lived on my boat over ten years. When I was 5 or six,the signs said ADULT SUPERVISION.By 9 they said AT YOUR OWN RISK.By 11 they said NO SWIMMING.Then they cleaned it up.Striped bass jumping at sunrise, local shad fisherman setting their nets, wonderful.

I still say some good Rocky Mountain blueberry kush is what you need and drop all the narcotics before you go insane...

I agree 110%.I Lived in Telluride and I've never heard of it but I can find out.I used to drive through the Melon Capitol of the world and it smelled fantastic, from miles away. Can't remember the name of the town.
I quit the narcotics for 2 or 3 days at a time or take 1/2 doses and the doctors go ballistic. They want me to take a full dose 6x per day and a 24 hour time release one so I don't keep going up and down, then having to fight back up.Kind of tortured logic tl me.

Things are a lot different these days in Colorado. The melon capital is probably Rocky Ford on the western slope. Narcotics are bad!

Bill, the David Brown Jimbo mentioned is about 40 miles down the road from me, builds very accurate GT40's, D-Type & C-type replicas and other stuff to order. The David Brown you mention is well known in the UK & Commonwealth countries for his tractors and gearbox related components, local company here still use old DB tractors as a basis for Hill Country 4wd fertiliser applicators and those gear components are being asked to live with far greater HP and loads than they ever saw in original use, as you say, tough stuff.

Bill.

Keith is 120% correct as usual.
My reference to the 1970's tv show was an indication that your postings are full of extremely interesting anecdotes.
Please continue to post.
You are a breath of fresh air..

Thank you,it was back in the mid 60,s when we were using DB Jag solid axles and they were a lot harder than Ford to narrow, but were indestructible.Didn't know about the DB kit maker near you. There's a whole lot I don't know about all of this.we put a 1968/9 DZ 302 Camaro Trans Am engine in an MG Midget with a DB Jaguar narrowed rear.We tubbed the car so much the trunk was gone with 31 inch tires. We were gonna make a Corvette killer cause we used to race for papers AND cash.We had a 2 speed powerglide. The driveshaft was about a foot long.It used to sit there and rumble and bounce cause of the cam we were using.Never could find anybody to race. The thing was uncontrollable. My partner finally flipped it over backwards.I've still got the motor.I made a set of cylinder heads and I was gonna test em on that.

That's the town in Colorado.Rt. 50 is on of my favorite roads of all.I had some friends lived on the John Martin Reservior.I'd drive from there to Montrose then up the hills to Tellurlde.
The last time I was there, the res. was almost dry. That legal pot deal is destroying Denver. They don't know about Co. winters. They'll be scraping them off the sidewalk.

Telluride... they don't call it paradise here for nothing. Did you ever attend the Telluride Bluegrass Festival?

I'm not a weed smoker these days but my opinion is that alcohol does far more damage to society than weed has ever done. Moderation in all things is the secret to life.
