P1001

Nope, I cannot get the link to work, so you'll have to Google as I said, then go to Archives and in their search box, put whatever you fancy. Enjoy.. Andrew

P/1042

I was beginning to despair, but was very excited to receive these photographs of progress, which illustrate the 1965 motor from 1042 mated to my ZF-0 transaxle (serial number 215). Note the old GT40 starter with remnants of orange paint, which used to match the coil and plug leads. Also news about the website. During a long and tiring home move, I cobbled together the following website about the car (Note the disclaimer please). It's not finished and I'm sure there are spoiling mistakes, but it's the best I can do in the circumstances and will be added to and edited later. I hope it's of interest-

Welcome to the website of a GT40P/1042 - GT40P/1042

P/1042(1001)

The race is really now on to get the car ready for the Le Mans Classic in July. It's a long-shot, but the CCD guys are pulling together to finish the GT40. The car would have to be air freighted home, which would probably be cost-prohibitive, but after 10 years of planning, obtaining original parts and waiting, I would love my car to be in France for the classic 24 Hours.

Andrew - you've made phenomenal progress over the years with this car..
I would like to urge you to have those SW Fuel pumps tested and run in for a few hours outside the car... IE - on a work bench somewhere... Even brand new pumps that are this old need to be examined and tested carefully...
I'd hate to see an accident...

"THE ENGINE'S IN!" As a reminder this is the short motor out of GT40P/1042 with heads from GT40P/1079. Thanks to the guys at Classic Car Developments in New Zealand, the reincarnation is getting nearer and nearer the finish point.

Re: P/1042(1001)

I'm informed, the wiring is complete and fuel systems in place. There are two FIA bag tanks, but only one filler as GT40P/1001 was the 1966 Essex Wire Le Mans GT40 of Ickx/Nerspach and had only one (right hand) fuel filler. Hence, interestingly, there is only one fuel gauge. The other hole is taken up with a fuel pressure gauge. Next will be the glasing (careful with my new/old stock 1967 windscreen guys), interior trim (for what it's worth).. remember the seats are out of the Hawkins/Donohue 66 Le Mans GT40P/1032, then the suspension and brakes (from GT40P/1002/1009 and 1085). Period FAV five spoke wheels (front 8" and rear 10.5") wheels. Can't wait!!!!

Perhaps Chris Amon will be test driving my GT40 before the end of this summer after all-

P/1042 (1001)

This is what I love about my car- bumbling around on Ebay and found two photographs of GT40P/1001, being raced at Snetterton in March 1967 with Denis Hulme at the wheel. The car was then owned by Sid Taylor Racing.. and "yes" I did buy the pictures. I've now got approaching 150 images of the car and they'll beaded to my website soon- Welcome to the website of a GT40P/1042 - GT40P/1042

P/1042 (1001)

Well, 10 years in the planning, 8 years collecting original parts and 6 years in the making, and it's almost here. Also, thanks to the car's historian, John Christian, for digging up yet another period photograph from somewhere. This one was taken 50 years ago, when the car was raced at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours for the Essex Wire team.

Hi Andrew,

Great to see your project finally coming together after so many years.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
The 4th picture in your last post shows a 5-spoke ‘BRM’ style rear wheel, something I’ve never seen before on a ’40. Is this something unique to this car?<o:p></o:p>

Hi Andy, from what I know 1001 seems to have always had six spoke magnesium BRMs. I have a spare set of 8"x15" and 12"x15", but they will not fit the rear bodywork. In any case, as I'm not building a copy of 1001, just using its' shell, I found a set of five spoke FAV GT40 wheels which are 8"x15" and 10.5"x15" alloys. These wheels remain within the ethos of P/1042 i.e. use as many period parts as possible. These five spoke wheels can also be found on the UK Ford museum car GT40P/1008. I think we've had this discussion before on this thread, but admittedly, many years ago. Best Regards.. Andrew
