Porsche 930 4 speed transaxles

I have two 930 transaxles for sale. Both are 4 speed, open differential, and long bellhousing (1979+).

One is coming from a running 1980 930 Turbo which I’m parting out, the other (1984) is a spare which I purchased for my race car. I don’t have a release lever arm for the 1984 box. Both are reasonably clean.

$2200 US each

I’m located in Calgary Alberta Canada. I’ll crate and deliver to any shipping facility in Calgary, but I’d ask that the buyer coordinates shipping through one of their local carriers. For reference shipping will be from postal code T3A 5E7. Since I’m in Canada, US buyers will have to cover any duty and brokerage charges. As an example cost, in 2005 I shipped the spare box from the east cost US for about $330.

Ok guys what power can these boxes handle and what are the gear ratios that are in them.I would save on the shipping with these being in canada and the fact that I have many trucker friends that head that way nearly daily.

Ratios are 2.25; 1.3; 0.89; 0.64. Final drive 4.22

This gearing with 26" tyres gives 200mph @ 7000 RPM

For the couple guys who PM'd me about the 930 engine in the picture it is tentatively sold as of this evening. The gearboxes are still available.

I have 3 of them and have never blow one up ;-)

Well never actually ran one yet. But they seem pretty durable as far as gearboxes goes, talked to a few people before going with it.

The Ring and Pinion is pretty stout as well as the rest of the parts in the box. I think some of the downside is older style synchro (non borg warner style) and for some the 4 speed vs. 5 speed.

If you need to rebuild depending on what you have done will cost you some $$ just like any other box so that is often a wash.

After looking around this forum I'll be lurking in the future. As a fabricator myself I enjoy seeing handbuilt performance autos. I had not realized the amount of activity or size of community building GT40s.

I am in the middle of building a shifter for my 930 box. If it wasn't attached to the motor I wouldn 't have to ask this. In the inverted position, what is the shift pattern. Looking from the rear, the shift rod has the rotation from neutral to reverse in the counter clock direction and into the trans for engagement. Can someone give me the directions for the forward gears. This will give me the solution of where the neutral gate adapter/selector will go(above or below the shaft). I had it all mapped out long ago, but finding that info now is next to impossible. Thanks

Sure Bill, First is clockwise, just off the reverse spring, and forward. Third is further clockwise and forward.

This tells me that the neutral gate rod mechanism has to be above the shaft to have reverse on the left side(Toyota shifter). This is different from the G50 setup. I had some pictures that were of a G50 setup, which I will assume has a different anatomy than the 930s. I will post the layout with numbers and all when I get it spec'd out on my build thread. It is a little behind and needs some catching up.
