Rear view camera

Back when I built my SLC & 917 cars (~2011, 2014) for my rear view solution I used a small LCD monitor and backup camera. It was pretty horrible - low resolution, grainy, easily washed out by sun, etc., but something was better than nothing ... I think ... I dunno (it was pretty horrible, lol).

Anyways, it just occurred to me that over the last 15 years video technology has probably improved so I tried out a few new solutions featuring 2.5k and 4k rear cameras and i have to say, yea, technology has definitely improved ... crystal clear images, counterbalance on direct sunlight, etc. ... almost as good as a rear mirror

I ultimately settled on the Wolfbox G900 pro - https://www.amazon.ca/WOLFBOX-G900-PRO-Included-Recording/dp/B0DD78Y3L5?th=1 - since it seemed like it fit the best inside both cars and I like to standardize the equipment i use for simplicity incase i need to repair/etc.

Point being, if you're still using technology from 15 years ago for the camera solution, you should check out what's available today, it's really good (although it doesn't seem like there's many OGs still kicking around)

The best rear view mirror is a GNTX-R ( https://www.gntx-r.com/). These have been used for a while by LMP, NASCAR, etc. teams, but are now available to mere mortals. The camera is excellent and it has sophisticated software to remove the glare/halo caused by headlights which wash out the image on other mirrors. It is also be controlled by CAN bus.

Looks expensive

I havn't had any glare/halo issues with mine, but I'm not driving in the dark so probably not a good test of that statement. Worst is that at certain sunlight angles the screen can show reflections from inside the cabin because it's a glass screen, but you can apply a matte ppf film to it which removes the reflections completely

Kinda like on an LCD TV - standard screens can show reflections under certain lighting conditions, whereas the matte screens do not show any ever

I just finished installing a Wolfbox G930 and am pleased with the results. I chose it for the smaller 10" screen (since it is so close seated in the car) and the OEM style optional mount. I managed to tuck all the wires into some silicone raceway along the perimeter of the passenger side of the windscreen and down to the fuse box where is is connected via an optional hardwire kit. Curious to see how the camera holds up living where it does...!
