Removing the windshield

Is there any reason why i'd want to leave the windshield attached and duck taped to the centre portion of the frame? (i.e., without it there the centre will spread out or something) ... I don't think so, but better safe than sorry to check :)

Also, since the windshield doesn't bolt in, I'm assuming it gets glued in down the road?

Can't speak of the SLC - but it will allow the spider to sag over time on a GT40. I have put a custom 2x4 in place to support the spider at the correct height.

Fn I was looking at that and i assume it gets glued in like our helicopters. I'm very lucky to have all the experts in structures and composites ready to get thier hands on an SL-C

Efn, So are you saying duct tape isn't structural? I'm screwed then!

Put it some place safe when you get it out. $1k replacement cost!

I guess the easy way is to take it out and see if it sags or not (or maybe it's even easier to just leave it in place :stunned: )

I just spent like 5hrs removing all the duct tape from the body - it took me a while to figure out heat gun until it starts to melt, then goof off to remove the rest. Trying to peel it off by hand was no fun for the first hour :(

Alex, it won't sag with the windscreen removed. It gets urethaned in later.
When I return from China, I will e-mail with details.

Try WD40 - removes most adhesives

I got it off eventually with goof off and A LOT of heat - basically had to melt the duct tape off first. Now i understand why people love blue painter's tape so much (it's all I ever use, alwyas took it for granted, heh)

The windshield opening wont sag if its attached to the chassis, it may move a little if its off the chassis. But really its pretty solid regardless. Duct tape residue is the work of the devil.
