Renault UN1 long fifth gear

Gentlemen,
I am looking for a long .76 fifth gear set for my UN1 gearbox.
Does anyone (preferably in UK) have a pair of gears that they want to sell? If so, how much?

These any good? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No - Then I guess we need another set too! - (doh!) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Try Chris Cole of Mach-1 transmissions too - he sells 'long 5th gear sets' - 01952 222155.

Also - if anyone knows whether a longer set (than .76) is available - please speak up.

Hi Bud - too much I guess! - /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seriously though I'm not too sure - We were last using the car at the trackday Malcolm arranged at Goodwood last November and noticed we had no 5th on the day, but thought it was possibly just a selector problem. (will be more cautious in future).

Roy's 40 runs an alloy Fontana block, with heavily modifed TFS heads, Solid Roller Cam, 1.7 SM Rockers, Kinsler throttle bodies, Motec management, 8 Coil ignition, drysumped and is bored .125 and stroked 0.25 so works out at about 347ci. We have had the car on a chassis dyno where it made in excess of 450 BHP at the rear wheels, but I do not have a definitive Crank figure. He had been considering fitting a 351 crank to get approx 6100cc but has now had second thoughts (+ it won't quite fit)

His 40 has pulled both sub 12s and 132mph on the quarter, so your guess is as good as mine (probably better!)

A better than 0.76 ratio would also help with our next crack at the 200mph we have planned.......... for June. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another view.

With that kind of power your only hope is pressurized oiling to the gears. Charlie Seabrook was runnining a high HP windsor stroker some years ago. His fifth gear was good for about three laps when he ran on the Pocano road course, which has one turn on the high speed banking. He ended up with a ZF in a Safir and retired his GTD to street duty.

Funny you should say that Bud - Roy was thinking of modding the box to 'oil' the gears and diff individually by fitting external scavenge pump, feed pipes etc etc. Inspired possibly by the Porsche conversion previously shown elsewhere on the forum.

If it ever comes to fruition, i'll post detail.
