Sunglasses

Hi all,

just a quick question for you experts out there:

RE, Randolph Engineering sunglasses and AO, American Optical sunglasses do look quite alike. They actually look being the same.

Can anybody tell me the difference?

Thanks,

Marcus

Marcus, I don't know the answer to this. However, in answering your question, could the fashion police of the GT40 crowd also nominate which sunglass models are effective and make one look cool, and which ones make one look like a desparate old fart?

Dalton, excellent idea.

I think any sort of Armani or -even worse- Gucci glasses would look a bit wrong,
if you know what I mean...

IMO and regardless of age you can never go wrong with a pair of Ray Ban Caravan shades.
Jochen Rindt wore them.

My vote would clearly go to my beloved Randolph Aviators with 52 mm frame. Not only did they (resp. their sister-model from American Optical) go to the moon with Apollo 11 the very same year a GT 40 won at Le Mans for the last time, but they are also Air force certified and are another real timeless classic.

Actually guys yes I know a bit about these - company I work at produces sunglasses for most of the UK high street retail chains.

If your sunglasses are e marked they have to meet the specification for safety etc (They will not shatter for example or the tips will not break off under XXX kg of force)

And these big names all have China companies producing their sunglasses.

We may have some product produced in the same factory!

And when our product for Next, M&S etc is being produced Prada may be on the next table!

Sure there may be a small bit of additional work done on the arms etc cleaning up the mold lines on a Prada pair but basically they are the same thing.

So taking this out further your Prada glasses are the same as the M&S ones but you just paid 10 times more for them!

Sorry if it bursts your bubble - bit like a "mass produced car manufacturer" taking on Ferrari at Le Mans - and winning!

It's all in the name though Ian. To some it is anyway.

So long as the 'additional work' undertaken on taken on the arms, involved naked nubile young women, rubbing gently across the mold lines with moistened cloth woven by Angels from the skins of endangered Snow Frogs, clasped ever-so gently between their not too ample breasts, then personally, I'm all up for that! Charge away my dear designer. Charge away.

Sadly, as you suggest, its all the same stuff really :( Oh to dream.
