Very cool GT40 painting by artist Scott Jacobs

This painting, INTIMIDATION, was unveiled at Barrett Jackson and created quite a stir, especially amongst GT owners. Artist Scott Jacobs is one of the top photo-realist artists alive and the detail in the work is off the charts . He paints freehand and old school (twelve camel hair brush) and, although the original sold, limited canvas prints are available. Some of the prints are signed by Carroll Shelby and can be ordered at the artist's website.... Intimidation

$600 for the smaller 18 x 25 print (un-framed/mounted) is a bit stiff.... Still cheaper than the $1500 for the 30 x 40 one..

So - are we a spammer or do you have any other interest in the GT40s community other than to make a profit from it?

Yep. What does Mr. Shelby have to do with a Ford GT? I understand the connection with a Ford GT40, but not the Ford GT.

Ron,

Shelby was a "paid consultant" on the GT project. IMHO his only action was to sign the consultant checks, but some may think otherwise. He did "test drive' the mules and "offer input"....read into that whatever you wish.

And that still does not make the painting subjects "GT40s" although it is a nice piece of artwork.

Whoa guys, just thought some folks might like to know that a major artist took an interest in a car that commemorated the original GT40 and spent a lot of hours to pay homage to the subject. Mr. Shelby obviously felt he was "involved" enough in the project to sign each of these artworks.

Obviously? Maybe if we make a change to the English language such that "Involved in..." now means "Was paid enough by...."

More likely he made a deal with the artist....

I suspect there is a "Carroll Shelby Will Sign Your <whatever>" price list somewhere.

I appreciate your input as it is really educational for me. I hear the artist is working on a 1967 AC Cobra. What is your opinion on that?

To balance the thread, here is a good painting commissioned by some chaps in the GTD club for a club members significant birthday a few years back, painted by Chris Duggan, painted from photos stolen by me from the recipients study (with wife's assistance) of his car in action in various events with the club. IMHO much more preferable than the above. For those amongst us who like a challenge, the pictures were taken at two different but internationally famous venues. Can you name them?

Not a bad painting by Duggan but would be considered more illustrative work than fine art. "Preferable" is very much subjective.

Ron,

Shelby has long been a thorn in the side of replica builders. He's been responsible for the loss of many interesting projects. I know that protecting someones trademarks is important, but he has taken this to a new level. He comes across as a grumpy, vindictive old man who clams to own things that he had very little original input.

I understand that he keeps a number of lawyers busy.

Thanks Jim for that input; I was not aware of that side of his rep. I'm a Harley guy too so I tend to take things at face value. Stepping on toes is frowned upon in HD land. My understanding has been that he is very charitable; especially to kid's causes.

You have jolly good eyesight to determine fine art from illustrative work from a 50k uploaded thumbnail picture. I can visualise you sneering down your nose at it as I read your comment! :) Preferable is as you say subjective. The reason why I prefer Chris Duggans picture is because it is of a car in action rather than a static group of cars, of I car I know, have driven, competed against and at venues that I think are cool. All my preference. But hey thats art for you.

Pit lane at Goodwood, as you say Jason and another going down the pitlane straight. The other venue is not as famous as Goodwood but is, I think, an older venue connected with Buggatti's. Not Le Mans, Molleur.
