Water additive for cooloing

Not to long ago some of you were talking about an additive called Motor Max to aid cooling. Who sells this stuff and does it really work?

I also use Red Line water wetter, as well as de-ionised water and about a 50/50 water/coolant mix. Works great in the barmy heat of England!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bud,

I use one quart of Motor Max with a 50/50 mix. Since using

MM I haven't had a temp spike problem like I had previously.

My engine would spike to 210 on occasion. Now it only rises

to 190-195 after a hard run. It definitely gets my vote!

I am not sure what is in Water Wetter or Motor Max, but I suspect what they are is wetting agents which reduce surface tension and reduce bubble formation. The molecular structure of water is such that on a microscopic, or submicroscopic level, the forces which maintain bubble film strength are surprisingly formidable. (I am not a chemist, please don't rip my head off on this stuff) Wetting agents, by reducing surface tension, allow water to wet adjacent surfaces better, thereby maximizing heat transfer into the water stream, and thereby carrying more heat away from the metal parts to the cooling system.
A while back I posted an enquiry wondering whether anyone had tried Evans NPG, which is neopentyl glycol, as a waterless coolant. If anyone has, I would be interested to know- water, as you know, has its' problems in cooling systems, it rusts things, and it would be nice to find a way to do without it.

Jim,

A quote from Motor Max's website, "Motor Max is not a "water wetter" or lubricant designed to speed waterflow, but a heat sink that acts to enhance your engine's performance at both (hot and cold) ends of the temperature
spectrum." The manufacturer claims that MM eliminates steam pockets, which we know are an inherent problem in 40s. I was pretty sure that I was suffering from steam pockets, because of the temperature spikes that I was seeing.
MM causes my engine to warm up more quickly to operating temperature, and once there, it pretty much stays put. If I
run the car very hard, then slow down to 20MPH or so, the temp only rises by about 10 degrees(195)for a couple of minutes, and then settles back to 185. Pre-MM that sort of driving would have caused a temperature spike of over 20 degrees(210), and required more airflow (speed) for the engine to get back to normal temperature.
The bottom line is that I'll be using MM from now on. It really has worked for me.

Neosynthetic have a similar product. The Neoproduct might be better than any other water treatment you can buy.

Try: U.K +44 1327 855200 BG Motorsport.

I've looked at all the products available in this particular area. The Neosynthetic product did seem to be the better product.

Their website: http://www.neosyntheticoil.com/keepcool.htm

Might be worth a go!

Fred,

The testimonials are pretty impressive. Check out the AAIW video at the top of the home page. Amazing
stuff!

Motor Max is used by a

number of race teams with amazing results. My engine

temperature range was far better, the first time I drove

the car with MotorMax in my cooling

system.

Thanks guys. It sounds like not running with Motor Max or Keep Cool is for fools. I will try Motor Max first and check on the availability of Keep Cool in California. I just checked on who sells Keep Cool and found Halls Panteras are a dealer. Thats impressive!
