We need this man.

The worse thing is the unelected fool who got us into this situation just smirks through the whole thing. Remember he controlled finances for 16 years and through history has followed the labour policy of borrow borrow borrow. In previous decades they usually cocked up within their first term and got replaced now since they pay 55% of the working population(and those taking a rest!) their generosity has kept them in power for far too long a period. Will we recover from his devastation of the economy

I love this guy! We need fresh voices in our looting congress like his. I'm for giving him US citizenship and electing him to Speaker of the House.

Great going but a wasted talent being an MEP imho. At least he has now made a name for himself and can hopefully be found a Ward back in the UK so he can voice opinions in the UK parliament rather than the ignored Euro Parliament.

His words fit right in with the horrible sitation in America. But as long as those Lenin referred to as "useful Idiots" think that more government is the cure for what ails us, the slide into the socialist abyss will continue.

I'm all in favor of this too, but I think Nancy Pelosi would have something to say about this....she has a lot to say...

He's already been "discovered" here in the States. I saw him being interviewed by Glen Beck on Fox a few days ago. He'd sure as hell get my vote :)

Well I listened to the speech and IMHO it didn’t really tell me anything we don’t already know. Words are cheap especially in opposition; unless I missed something there was nothing from him about what he would do different that will get us out of this mess.

Nick, I think the problem is a whole lot of people apparently don't "already know". Secondly, I believe another big problem is the question "what is he going to do different" The real question should be; What are we going to do different?

Frank

If you are talking about the war years I can’t argue with that, right man for the right time, just wish we could find another.

Bud

The problem in this country is we cycle between successive Conservative and Labour governments neither of which seem to have all the answers. So despite becoming somewhat disillusioned with all this countries parties, what I can do is continue voting Liberal Democrat, after all one of their main polices for years is to :-

“scrap the‘Whitehall knows best’ rules and targets that mess up and delay decisions about key local issues. Local people will be set free to make the key decisions about their area and about improving local services, with real powers and responsibilities devolved to local communities and their councils.”

Which is the exact policy Mr Hannan advocates in his book “The Plan 12 months to renew Britain.

We can debate conservative v. liberal policies and/or who's to blame for the situation all day long - everyone's got a right to an opinion and no one person's opinion is obviously correct.

However, what is pretty clear here in the clip that Pete posted is that here's a person here who is more interested in telling the true and being direct about it than using political phraseology (which softens and clouds the issues) and/or obvious posturing for partisan gain. In other words, what a breath of fresh air to see a politician call it directly and do so without using a bunch of bullshit partisan language ("the liberals this" or "conservatives have...").

We've had a crisis of weak leadership in the US for many years, both in Congress and in the White House. Obama looks to be off to a good start, let's hope he can get the US back on the map of global legitimacy without having to mortgage our children's future!

Cliff,

Sorry for the thread drift, I accept and understand your points. Just felt it can be easy to win the argument more difficult to provide the solution, and he should have taken the opportunity to put forward what he would do different. Maybe it wasn't the right time.
