Wiper Arm & Washer Advice Needed

My car is finally nearing its first road test and MOT. I have a Lucas wiper motor fitted and I would like some advice. I was thinking of putting on a wiper arm that has the integral washer system, to avoid the body mounted washers that never seem to spray where you want them to. Does anyone know of a suitable donor/part number that I could use? Has anyone made this work on their car?

If not, which wiper arm should I fit, assuming that the above didn't work and I just fitted some body mounted washer jets?

Cheers,

Mark.

Mark:
I am here in the states so my exact setup may not be available to you, but I essentially used an arm mounted nozzle I got off a GM van. The system is pretty simple. A plastic tank with pump mounted on it, small 3/16 hose and a small plastic check valve. The addition of a small momentary switch or button on the dash completed the setup.
The check valve needs to be mounted close to the tank to keep the line full so that the spray has minimal lead time when actuated.
It works well, and does not need aiming as the spray is directly on the windscreen, and follows the wiper.
The spray heads are small plastic clips that attach to the arm, and the hose follows the arm and loops over the connection at the drive and into the body.
Pretty simple and it works well.
Cheers

Mark,
Peugeot 407 wipers do the job. Will take a pic tonight if you want. Or if all else fails, get some small diameter ally tube, plug the end and ten drill very small holes along it to make a spray bar and then attach to your wiper.

Another option is to look at the system on the Fiat Coupes.

Here is a picture of the system on a TVR Tuscan. It's a loop of black nyon tube with holes toward the screen.

Thanks Guys, helpful as always.

Phil - Thanks, it might be possible to get the same thing from a Vauxhaul van here in the UK. I also like the idea of the check valve to keep the line full. Saves any dry wiping of the screen.

Brett, 407 sounds like a good option also. Shouldn't have any probs getting one of those. Did it fit the Lucas splines or did you have to mess around with it?

Hi Mark,

In my past, I was involved in rally car preparation of Escort Cosworths - We used a Peugeot wiper spray bar - Peugeot Part No was 643861.

It wasn't expensive, and was very effective.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Geoff.

Brilliant guys.

I'll be ordering one of those tomorrow! I take it I can get the non-return valve for the washer line in an autoshop, or do I need to go to a specialst?
