Yahoo - DRB #42 is Alive

Well it took 6 long hours of fiddling with the plumbing (water, fuel and oil) but she fired right up once I got all of that straigthened out. Boy what a marvelous sound. The SDS engine management system worked first try and I was able to get it running smoothly within about 10 minutes. I guess all those painstaking hours hunkered down over the wiring paid off. Now on to the gear shift mechanism and hopefully a test drive within the next two weeks.
Just the most unbelieveable rush. Details will be posted on my website later.

Colin,

Did you get ANY sleep after the first fire? I am sure you had all sorts of imaginings going through your head. It is great, isn't it!

Excellent news Colin
You've made great progress. I hope I can follow suit as quickly as you have done.
All the best.

Colin, isn't that really something when the creation has life breathed into it ? After my first fire-up, I'm sure that I did 1000kms in my head before I went to sleep that night, & then another 1000kms in dreamland !!

There were 3 "moments" during my build - final paint transformed the car (& even impressed my wife !), engine start (like sending out an APB to all your neighbours - instant crowd), & then getting through the final rego tests (the savings on Vallium from now on will easily pay for the 40's fuel) !

Bloody Well Done !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Peter, those are words that we can all relate to. May I add a few more of my own special moments to the list...

* The day that I held the first component. It was just a triangle of pipes that were eventually to be part of the front suspension, but it was now no longer something I dreamt about. I could touch it and feel it.

* The moment after the rolling chassis was dropped off into my garage and all the helpers had gone home, leaving me alone to contemplate what was ahead.

* The day that I first lowered it onto its wheels. (Very late in the build in my case).

* The first day I drove it. It was the drive home from RF, a 1.5 hour drive of mostly freeway. One of the most terrifying experiences of my life with the thought that I might have forgotten to tighten something. (All in my head, three months later and all is still well - touch wood).

* The day the doubters saw the car on the road and became believers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And, yes, like a proud Dad, I have pictures of every one of those moments.
