Jimmy, perfect, what struck me looking at that photo, is that it is like, here we are in 2011, watching the construction of an 'original ' GT40. ok, the people are different, but the product is the same.
With the care and attention to detail that you and Ali are putting into the job, these cars will be something special, of that I am sure. Keep posting, you are doing something that most of us can only dream about, and doing it well.

The ZF Oil Pumps are ready.
My mate Doug Fitzpatrick loaned me his broken pump to copy and we made three new ones.
Doug's has a slightly different drive connection on his Lotus so we made two spade types for us and an exact copy replacement for him.
We also added an oil seal to the spigot.

It's just brilliantly smart!
One pattern, sliced and machined.... I wouldn't had the idea!
How did you do for the G rotor?

I'm checking for an update each day, just as when you wait the postman for an important letter...

Did you already thank about writing a book telling you journey with the GT?

Olivier,
Comment vas-tu ?

The gerotors were eventually electro-eroded out of steel and polished.
The sinter ones had the exact same profile as the ZF and came from a BMC pump but were too long.

Cordially,

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Always good to see your work and the lengths you go to Jim.

You have your pump rotors made know, but size wise it looks like Mazda 1300.
I did a lot on those engines and it looks close ,Maybe worth looking at for future.

Thanks Jim,
You might not believe it but I tried the Mazda 1300 rotor and unfortunately it was too big.
The Mazda is 50mm diameter and the ZF is only 40mm.

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Oil pump gears.. Ford pushrod-Cortina Escort Anglia etc, I think its either Triumph 2000/Vanguard or perhaps some of the Roots group stuff- Hillman Imp & Minx's/Hunters etc that I used gerotors out of to increase volume of the Ford pumps, if they happen to have same critical dimensions of your ZF piece.

Jac,
Yes - I spent some time looking at post 1961 Hobourn Eaton pumps for a suitable unit. The trouble was finding a batch of similar rotors when I needed them.

Finished ZF pumps.
Doug's new pump for his Lotus is on the left in the first shot.

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Without reading all the postings and threads, were you aware of the sad passing of Ray Webber last Saturday? Frank Catt informed me this week. I met Ray only once, but foundhim to be a most delightful, enthusiastic and sincere person. His death is a loss to our community and my condolences go out to his family and friends... Andrew (Chairman of the GT40 Enthusiasts Club).

Dropped in the exhaust headers today before they go out for coating - just to get an idea of how they will look.
These are old style sand bent ones with no butt welds.

Nice job James, looking fantastic. Who did you decide to use to coat your exhaust in the end?

Trevor,
Both sets are going to Zircotec this weekend for the white coating.
We are also investigating doing the big bore coolant pipework in a similar silver thermal barrier.

Good stuff, can't wait to see the results, sure they will do a great job

Exhaust bolted to the headers today and really pleased with the result.
We have decided to add some loops and springs to the collectors.
Now making the original designed rear support bracket to the transaxle.

Here's a rear exhaust bracket from an orignal car in case you were wondering.
