Chevron B16 Replica

Thank's Russ,
It's been about 5 Deg cooler than last year and my welding is my weak point, hence the use of the brass hammer. I will redo anything I'm not happy with. The back end is set up for the Lola style uprights. If I waited a while Murry Sinclair had some Chevron ones I could have used for sale. (Now sold) I follow your build all the time and like you set goals ,I'm about a month behind. I will have to put off anything I don't do now to spring. I'm waiting to see your car on the road.
Dave

Had a bit of a nice day today and started on the last rear brace. If it's nice tomorrow I will finish it off.
Dave

Last brace finished. I have left is tabs and bushings. I'll start panning next week.
I was also out to Mosport Park today. The young Lad had a Scout camp there this weekend. It was a nice sunny fall day and a few Porsches running around the track.

What temperature does it get down to Dave ?

Certainly puts my forthcoming problems ( unheated UK workshop, current project car sitting outside ) in perspective if you are already getting temperatures so cold it's messing with your welding.

I'm going to count my blessings from now on :)

Sid,
It got down to -5 C on the Friday at night. Frost on the ground in the morning. I have a few good days this week it's warming up to 13 or 14. I should get my tabs all done. It cools down really quick when the sun goes down. I have a good welding window in the afternoon my house faces west. I run the heater for 10 to 15 minutes to get it toasty.
Dave

Gent's,
I had a good last few days and just about completed all the welding. I have front two brake tabs and two plates to mount on the rear firewall for fuel pump electrical etc. I have decided to pan the bottom in steel. WeldBond adhesive between the steel panels as a sealer and then spot weld after it sets. It will be super strong after that. Will have to start planning the next phase after that.

Coming along nicely Dave. That's a good looking chassis you've got there.

Your temperatures are about what we have to cope with, although we often don't get into the double digits during the day! But then I guess your winter hasn't really started yet.....Anyway, sounds like you've got a good heater, so let's have no excuses! ;)

I'm really looking forward to seeing the next phase of your build. Keep up the good work.

Dave, I've been waiting for it to cool down! It's been VERY hot here and thunderstorms/electrical storms all summer. Small garage requires moving bodywork outdoors to work on chassis. Beginning to become tolerable at 87-90 degrees F now.

Russ, Jack,
Thank's. It got up to 14 Deg C today and I almost got all the main welding done but I ran out of rod. I will get some tomorrow and another fill of Argon and that should finish it and the control arms too. I also have to figure out a tank size for in behind the seats. The original used bag tanks. I may have to do something custom. Run the tubes for fuel and cooling in the side pods after the main sheet metal is done.
Russ when you get to the track ask your nemisis B16 what spring rates he is running. I have a good idea what to use, but a healthy start would help.
Jack my parent's condo in Palm Harbor is only rented for a couple of months. They have the bungalow type with a small garage. We could finish it off during March break. I just need a transport truck to bring all my junk down.
Dave

Ready for Blasting.
Everything is done welding wise and now I am going to media blast this week. Just have to pick up the metal sheet and order the spot attachment from Eastwood.

Thank's Guy's,
I was calling in my markers today to get some help on the weekend. I will have to shear a 4'x8' sheet of 22 SWG to cover the bottom and I can't do it by myself. I will buy one sheet at a time I'm running out of room. It was raining today so I could not blast. I also noticed I forgot the two plates on the rear firewall I will do them tomorrow. I may also blast tomorrow and must make sure the neighbours are away at work. I am also going along with Paul Thompsons advice on the fuel tank. I will have to check and see if the bag needs a glass housing inside the panned area. Since I am going LHD it works out that the filler and tank will be on the passenger side. I can also add a crossover and another tank on the driver's side in the future if need be. I'll post some more pic's when I start the panning.

Gent's,
So much for media blasting. Started out sunny them started to rain. Using the Tempo aircraft primer. It's pretty forgiving stuff but as you can see you have to keep it shaken all the time. The last part ran a bit. It sets up in 30 min. I kept the paint warm in the house but it did cool down some. I will fix it up later.

Gent's,
Did a bit more blasting today. I have a third of the chassis done. I have a few good days this weekend so I should get it done. I ordered my spot welder attachment from Eastwood. When it arrives I should be able to start the panning.

A few pic's now that I am waiting for my spot weld attachment. I been putting some zinc primer in the areas that I will not be welding in. Any overspray I will clean up with emery cloth before I weld. The total chassis weight is 120.8 lbs. That's including the rear sub frame not in the picture.

Gent's,
Spot welder attachment arrived today so should have the floor on tomorrow. I have some help for that. Did up some tapered bushings for the front uprights. One side done.
