Chevron B16 Replica

Tom,
It's much the way I left it in November. I have had some family duties to do this year helping out my parents. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers a while back and my dad had his hip replaced in April. They keep me pretty busy.
I have to clean out the garage again it becomes a dumping zone and get my new welder up and running. I picked up a Powcon 300 ST added 25' CK20 water cooled torch and a Dynaflux Tiger water cooler. I hope to get it going next week. The weather has turned cool again. I hope to get the main deck done and rolling this year.

Joe,
I will be starting to do some more work the end of this month when the young lad is back in school. I had many people taking up my time this summer also the heat was a bit much. Any time you want to come down and see what I have. I will be here. Not this weekend though going to the ALMS Race at Mosport.

This post is for Terry.
Terry we got my mom in a long care facility last week. I have been buying parts for the engine off fleabay in what little spare time I have of late. Trying to get these wheels done too. I have three more centers to blast. Got the tires last week and got burned on them price wise Two Sumitomo HTR 200 195/60/13 front and two rear 205/60/13 paid 40% more than the prices listed in the US. Our dollar is almost at parr. Had Joe and Alex come for visit from Toronto. going to make some changes to the chasiss on the front and rear suspension pick up points do that in the spring. Waiting to hear from Compomotive UK if they will send me a wheel half or to go with what I have. I try to keep you up to date.

Guys,

One more thing. Rodney Bender contacted me about a week and a half ago. He is in Ohio. He has a B16 project for sale. He knew Randy Berry well. I think the bodywork I purchased originally came from him. He finding it hard to finish going through the same thing as I had with my mother. Told me $7500.00 US PM me and I can give you his number if you are interested.

Sounds like you're at that stage where a lot is going on, but not much to really share. I imagine the family situation pulled a lot of energy and hope it's working out as well as can be expected.

Dave,
I too know Rodney. The body did come from Randy Berry. I also knew Randy since 1976. His family was not interested in continuing his business after his death and sold everything off.

Jack & Terry

Everytime I go to do something with the car there is always something else comes up. Everybody think's I have nothing to do, so they find thing's for me. I have been trying to pick up a few parts too, before many of these places go out of buisiness. I am still waiting to hear about delivery for the castings for the belt conversion. I will have to source pullies elsewhere. I was talking with a friend if being 1/2 larger would affect the tire. I have my rears down to 8" tire recomended with is 7.5". Do you guys think is would make much of a difference being out 1/4" on each side wall to affect the tire performance. Compomotive UK wants 200 quid for a 3" outer shell 65 quid to ship DHL. I could buy two Kodiac's for that.

Hi Dave. There is a guy here in NZ the does spun alloy wheels (Arrow Wheels), His qualitly will match anything out there, Hes not cheep but it sounds like thats going to be the case regardless I'm pretty sure its www.arrowwheels.co.nz might be worth a look. As for the wheels 1/4" won't make a difference unless its an very low profile tyre. I have to admit to being suprised at your tyre size's as most of the pics I've seen the cars seem to have much wider rears. Cheers Leon

Dave, You might want to try here for rims. They are part of Europa Spares a reputable firm based here in England. If you look in 'prices' they list various sizes but I don't know if they will fit your centres. Might be worth contacting them.

You may wish to contacr BBS wheels here in the USA. I believe they made the B-16 wheels from Chevron drawings.

I have the fronts done they had only one coat of paint on them. Here are the rears and one front. The fronts are now 6.5" wide and the rears with the FO 3.5 outers 8" wide total. The last photo shows the F3 -3" outer of which I have only one with the blasted center that's almost done. This rim is 7.5" Three coats of paint on them. Lot's of work using aluminum oxide 220 grit.

Gent's,

I just finished pressing the bearings for the rear right upright. I will do the left tomorrow. I have the Wilwoods for the front. I will have to get Darren @GTS to get me the rear with park brake. I have studs on order for the front hubs. Have Ken Graham(Graham Race Cars) turning me some fresh axles for the front uprights to take the Escort GP4 hubs. The ones that came with the uprights were cortina.
