SLC 36 Cam's Build

I gave up. i coulndt find a thermosatat housing for a modern LS that rotated 360, so i made one pointing down. I saw a plate on ebat that adapted LS to old school snmall blocj tstat housing but added 3/8" clearance. Had to clear the firewall and the fuel filler so this is about the only orinetation i saw working. Short of spinning it 180 deg and threading it through the belts! Hadn't used 22.5 deg angles since trimming my crown mould...

Good job Cam,
Also cut & rewelded mine to point straight down. Same interference found with the adapter plate for old school SBC housing..

Yours is "prettier" than mine too..

Hi Cam,

Thanks for having me over to see your progress first-hand. You're moving along nicely BTW. It was nice to see and take photos of finished "projects" on your car and to brain-storm on some unfinished ones.

Got my hubs back with the ARP long-studs pressed in so I've been finishing the front brake rotor duct mock-ups.

Do you think a stock T-stat housing would clear with a top-filling fuel cell? I'm bundling up my can to send off hopefully this week.

Also, thanks for the tip you and Jack are doing with the Moroso expansion tank insulation (although it was 13-degrees here this AM so it might have made a nice headrest warmer).

Doc;
I'd think it would fit, depending on how far back your new fuel cell comes. It might be a little tight on the crossmemeber above but should work..

TRying to finish up the coolant system. I have to snake the radiartor return line in between the Fuel system, fuse box, serp belt pully as well as the SLC frame. its gettting crwoded back there.

I'm about 1/2" away from the serp belt pulley. with solid motor mounts will that pully be torquing more than 1/2"?

Fuel filler: Not my favorite idea but i broke down and got a 2" galv muffler j bend. Cut the 90 out of it and joined it with fuel safe 2" hose. i think the sparco filler necks are 2.25" So i got the 2x2.25" adapter too. Wish i had one !

My sons favorite part of the build so far, 3" SS J bends. I better cut these up soon or they'll disappear. I picked up a z-06 Vette exhaust, cheap on ebay right now. These cata are huge. I think i fit it but worried about weld shrinkage on 304 ss to 409 ss. So i'm making one weld, carting it back to the SLc and tacking up the 2nd one.

Does anyone see a problem with this cat getting anything too hot. Anyone? anyone? Bueller?

Please tell me you arn't going to try to band clamp your fuel filler hose onto the tank's threaded NPT fitting...... :lipsrsealed:

Huh, guess i have been busy , just haven't offloaded the pics. OK, it's ugly but i wanted to stay with the LS drive by wire. Waiting on some 1/4" cleavis joints. These are hard little gems to find, so McMaster carr!

I'll clean it up, thanks Tim for the idea!

Huh, band clamp, that's a good idea. i was just going to duct tape it! Kidding

Yup, i know i didn't like the idea. but it's been done at least 3x with no leaks. If it does i'll just carry a large fire extinguisher! BTW, do you have a spare roll of duct tape!?

Fuel tank isn't something i'd mess around with. If you can't do it properly (threaded fitting) have somebody chop it off and put on a beaded fitting. That just screams potential fire hazard to me :lipsrsealed::lipsrsealed::lipsrsealed:
