Hey Rick

What original year had the "satnav" option?
And historic passport? With incorrect rear view mirrors both internal and external?

Great bit of video though and thanks for sharing

Hey, We don't make the rules!

I have seen numerous original FAV cars with various sorts of exterior mirrors so I suspect that they are not controlled and function rules over form on that point.

Does the girl on the GPS tell you "bear right at Eau Rouge"??!?!?

That was last year right? The SPA video posted earlier shows the car a few times, once missing the passenger door. Every other car I saw and there were several well known, had side mirrors. Sour grapes? Great video.

That video hadn't been posted. It's a different one from the 2012 event showing the car going by minus a door. The in-car video is great.

You missed the tow bar and the passengers make up mirror mate. To be honest, that's the idea of the historic passport really but it's so full of holes it's pretty pointless. There is a SPF -R somewhere on here with Dart heads, a Boss 302 block and HTP.

If it gets more cars on the track it will get my vote, but then the whole mess of cheque book racing rears it's head so only the "rich" will win (again). Oh, you're only here to take part? Oh that's a relief - didn't want to think that spending £50k a year on HTP racing in Europe with no chance of finishing in the top 10 is in anyway onerous or a waste of time & money.

Ian, if your grapes are sour, may I recommend a South facing slope next season in your vineyard? Those Northern slopes of yours make for some quite bitter crops mate...:uneasy:

I must say, the sound on that video was exemplary! Presumably a Roush 427?

I believe you are correct Tim although it wasn't the size that mattered so much as the contemporary part. It is after all supposed to be "technically accurate"

To be honest the whole HTP thing is a bit of a scam. It should be run what you brung, and for the Post Historics, an FIA rigidly enforced originality rule, i.e. period stuff and period tech. Once you start putting in 'cheater' engines, modern brakes and contemporary tyres it ain't historic any more, the paying public are cheated and relative results against other 'period' cars null & void. I hope Adrian Newey is reading this...

I think the HTP is a 'middle class snob' issue... :)

As a guy I know used to say "It may be racing, but it sure ain't vintage!"

The organizing bodies have the issue of filling grids as cars become more valuable and likely to be squirreled away in a collection. If the car is basically "as raced" does the spectator really care if the block is a stronger, newer type?

We have approached the vintage groups here to allow the Superformance MK II "Cobras" to compete. They have the same frame and suspension as the 60's cars but do have a composite body. Again, does it look and act the part? I have personally seen a Kirkham 427 Cobra vintage racing in the US with a TREMEC TKO FIVE SPEED GEARBOX! When was that homologated for a Cobra? Honestly does it give any advantage? No, only in terms of the cost of components is it an advantage and if it keeps a car on track to fill the field I for one am in favor of it.

The purist vintage groups are great...I love to see Ferrari GTOs going at it but really how many are raced now? Lets have a "90 percent" class to allow fields to fill, guys to race without being Wal-Mart heirs and spectators to get some feel for "how it was" back then.

Transmission complete.

That's what I'm talking about, at least in the motor dept. Sure didn't sound like a 289 to me but there you go. Impressive.

Mathwall cut their teeth in F5000 and were well known Bow Tie engineers. Very good rep although expensive... Seems to go together!
