Pebble Beach winner?

Thanks!! It won its class, which probably doubled its already considerable value.... good for Mr. Davis and Bob Ash who restored it.

I took numerous photos, including the engine bay and interior, and even managed to get some bonus shots of Henry Ford II with the winner. I'll be posting them here in the next day or two.

I spoke for awhile with the owner. He said the car is simply too nice to race; it will be a museum piece for future generations to enjoy.

Ah, crap, another nice race car owned by a rich guy who will just let it sit and collect dust....because it's too nice to do what it was originally designed to do: go fast around a race track.

After having seen Jon Shirley beat the crap out of a pre-WWII Alfa Romeo grand prix car at our local track in Seattle here a couple years ago....or see his $16,000,000 250TR spin off the track in 2009 and almost get wiped out....it's clear to me that if you don't have the balls to race your vintage race car then you're not the right guy to own it. Just my $.02.

That's a shame. Rob Walton races 1075; if it breaks, he gets it fixed. I'm glad the car is restored, but one of the things that Bob Ash specializes in is getting the car to full functional and cosmetic condition. It's a shame he isn't going to drive it more.

:stupid:

I totally agree!

I said I was going to post photos from Pebble Beach, then my computer blew up, and after I got it going again I totally forgot about it until now.

Here they are. Enjoy!

Pls excuse my ignorance, but, can someone 'splain to this old man what the angle iron 'square' above the exhaust is all about?

Were the car a MKIII, I'd have assumed it had something to do with the 'luggage rack' (cargo space, trunk - whatever it's called)' mounted back there (never having seen the 'real deal' before). Of course, the car's headers would have to be totally diff for that to be the case as well.

I haven't seen one of these on a 'genny' MKI before and it has me puzzled.

Crickets?!

Well, at least now I know I'm not the only one around here who's in the dark on this!

At some point 60`s there was in race car regulations point that you must have luggage room in Gran Turismo -cars, specific size. There was no enough room under front lid so they made luggage boxes under the rear clip.
In mkII luggage boxes are both sides of transaxle.
I think thats mk1 version`s of it, it`s bottom frame. Not good for the frozen goods.

I'm aware of the twin compartments in the MKII, and the 'box' in the MKIII, but, I've never heard of/seen photos of a MKI with any kind of 'box' back there. The darn thing would have to be, what, a max of 2" 'tall' or so in order to close the MKI's rear clamshell?

Still, what other purpose could a 'bracket' like that have?

'Puzzlement...
