It's Official - New GT

"A: The Ford GT will have one of the most advanced suites of performance-tuned driver-assist technologies, including traction control, stability control, advanced active aerodynamics, including a deployable rear wing, keyed to both speed and driver input. The deployable rear wing adjusts its height and/or pitch angle, depending upon conditions tied into its suite of active aerodynamics."

Now, consider the fact that the '05/'06 FGT had none of these 'features'...nor did it have an ounce of carbon fiber anywhere (that I can recall, anyway)...and the fact that the existing GT's 'sticker (in '06) was $167K (and that was 10 years ago)...then throw in the fact that we're being told by Ford that the new car's total production will be far less than that of the present GTs (therefore far fewer cars to recoupe r & d & production costs)...and maybe you can see why I believe $250K stickers are not too likely. ($167K X 2[?] = $334K b-a-r-e m-i-n-i-m-u-m IMHO.)

Buuuuuut, right now ANY speculation re: the new car's 'sticker' is just that - speculation.

Ditto re: the dealer markup...although I'd bet most of us could come pretty darned close there.

Larry, stop making sense, your killing all of us old timers who worked in the 1980's....
Its a new generation, I want it and I want it for freeeeeeeee. Oh and Larry your paying for my insurance too.
Um as many know Ive got a toe in the water when it comes to the 2005/2006 GT .
If the new car was anywhere near or UNDER 250 grand I will buy 4 .
RED/WHITE AND BLUE and the forth PINK , with a ? liscense plate frame, just because.
We are all speculating, but how can this car if IT does come out that we can buy it be under 400 grand?
Again, something is missing to the entire story.

Trying to compare the new GT to the one 10 years ago is not valid. It has to be compared to the cars available today and there are many that have the same technology and are available in the $250k range. I love the car but wonder how many buyers there would be at $400k+. No matter how neat the car is and how much headline it is commanding now, time marches on and there will be newer and flashier cars sure to come.

I like the new GT but it is very modern and slick and makes no effort at following the original aesthetic design of the original car which was Petunia era GT's goal. The Petunia FGT was in essence an updated and reissue/reincarnation of the Mark I design.

The new car aside from having some "cues" from the Ford GT/GT40 is a totally different car and makes not effort to in anyway be a reincarnation of the GT40. It is Fords 918, Aventador, 458 or 650s if you will.

I believe its price will be north of $300K and by the time stealerships are done with their ADMs you will have to drop $450K+ to get one or more. That is if you can even get one after all the "luminaries" and multi millionaires, celebs, Saudi Sheiks get theirs.

Lets remember this is an end of 2016 delivery. By then, the new Zora mid engine Vette will be on the near horizon, McLaren, Viper, Porsche, Ferrari and others will no doubt be gunning for the new GT. There will be a lot of choices I suspect.

Lets see how this shakes out.

One thing for sure it didn't seem to hurt FGT sales numbers at Barrett Jackson this past weekend with FGTs bringing from $320K to over $400K.

I think this new "GT" has made the Petunia era FGT an instant classic overnight.

"Waxer"....unless that name is on your birth certificate, please comply with rule #2 here. Thanks and welcome

Evan the day the 2005/2006 FORD GT stopped production it became an Icon and an instant classic. I too have mixed feelings on the new one. Its different, bold, not to original in design.
I hope Ford does the right thing, I still have a funny feeling about this car.
Not being made by Ford,Ford employees, need 100 cars to race. I

Agree 100% .

The new car is certainly not the working class hero of the previous generations and has lost quite a bit of the "essence" of the GT40.

What excites me about the new GT is the hard-core contemporary design, complex air management body shape, powertrain, and street legal with a warrantee. As far as “beauty” - fighter pilots have a saying “If it works, it’s beautiful”, that’s up the road a ways but it sure looks the part. There is a long road ahead before this shows up for sale and a bunch of competition getting ready for it, I give Ford huge kudo’s for doing this and wish them the best of luck.

Perhaps everyone would be happier if they had named the new car something else, perhaps Sydney or Paltypus?

You know the new Mustang is called "Mustang" but it shares nothing with 1964.5 other than the name. Look at the GT the same way. The GT40 has been done, the 05/06
"homage" to the '40 was done. This is new with an old name.

Can't really argue with that.

The car is the modern Ford GT and there isn't anything wrong with that at all. Hell, the 2005/2006 Ford GT shared nothing with the original car either - it's larger, heavier, uses a completely different suspension design, engine, transaxle, and so on. It was a great tribute car but the closest it got to looking like a Ford GT40 was when it was wearing a heritage paint scheme. It was a completely new car too.

I'm pleased to see Ford producing a new halo car but this time with the intention of taking it to the track.

I'm really excited about the new GT, especially since they plan to race it. One thing struck me at first glance. It really looked familiar but not a GT40 kind of familiar.
Today it hit me. It looks like a very close relative of the Lamborghini Asterion concept car.
Certainly not a twin but a close cousin.

Uuuuuuuuuuuh...whaaa???! Overlay a side-view photo or transparency of a FGT over that of a GT40 (or vice-versa). I defy you to tell which is which in side silhouette (except for the rear bumper on the FGT, of course). 'Very similar situation exists with both the the front and rear views. They look a whoooooooole BUNCH similar there too!

GT40 has sinuous curves the FGT will never have sorry. I think it is funny how the FGT homers refer to it as the real deal. I can't think of any movie that had a sequel that ever ended up being nearly as good as the original. There's a forum for FGT lovers. In fact there's two lol!

I'm with Mike D. Love the Ford GT, but a GT40 is ain't and that's a good thing. It's a modern interpretation and is a beautiful car, but that's about where the similarity ends. So it'll be with the new Ford GT.

Well, ^THAT's^ a wee bit different than your initial statement:

It was a great tribute car but THE CLOSEST IT GOT TO LOOKING LIKE A GT40 was when it was wearing a heritage paint scheme.

'Big diff, don'tcha think?! :D
