It's Official - New GT

Perhaps a perusal of the staff on the GT project will shed some light. Do you possibly suspect that some of the staff look in here once in a while to see reactions/interests?

Well just in case they are looking for beta testers to monitor longevity and performance in a daily driver situation on real world roads..... haha.... I volunteer!

Don't want to get into a pissing contest..but how far from Desoto drag strip are you Dave??? It is 10 min from my house...and I know some of the fellows that work there..they all had to sigh their life away and were told to keep their mouths shut. The only info I could get is the GT40 was there for testing.
It is second hand info that came from a reliably source. Just thought I would share with everyone...next time I will keep my mouth shut.

Hi Walt. I'm in Detroit, which is pretty far from Bradenton. My response wasn't intended to start a pissing match at all, I just know the people that were there testing, and they weren't there testing a new Ford GT. If you're close to the track, you can imagine who usually acts as wheelman for cars testing at Bradenton, who he does it for, and what new FMC product he'd probably be running down there right about now.

Don't worry about it Walt. Dave Banister runs the FGT forum and would know if the new car was there or not. I will say if you came on his forum and offered a curt response like his was as your first post, you would in short order get a less than friendly response from him and probably shown the front door. The internet is a funny place. I'm just surprised Dave lowered himself enough to even join a kit car forum let alone actually share some of his expert advice in these matters.

Get it right Mike - two N's. "Dave Bannister."

You've never been shown the door from Ford GT Forum. You have, however, been shown the door at multiple other sites (which is quite an achievement) for an inability to control your bizarrely compulsive urge to pick fights with Ford GT owners and tell them why their car sucks. I just had the courtesy to tell you up front that I'm not going to tolerate it.

I would expect that most sites geared towards adults would adhere to similar policies.

I live in NC and am having trouble imagining what Ford car they'd be testing at a strip in FL. So help a fellow Ford fan out and at least give us a hint.

Daytona is over with and I wouldn't think they'd be running their winning Daytona Prototype on a drag strip, but I suppose there would be some useful data gained from the exercise.

Sorry Dave two N's lol

The Ford GT is a great car. It's considerably overpriced these days. I know FGT owners don't like to hear that. It's much more comfortable and less hard edged than the originals. I suppose those opinions are considered fighting words to the faithful given the lack of sophistication in their responses. I bet you can call my SPF GT40 a kit car and say it lacks in any measure of prominence and nobody here will call your mama fat and suggest you should be banned. Then again, this is more of an adult oriented site so go figure...

Good to see you here and I'm sure everyone welcomes your expertise in all things FGTs. Will you consider becoming a supporting member? Be great to have you around!

Yeah, I was afraid that was it.

I was hoping they were testing say a new Ford Lightning. I've been jonesing for one of those since my 2004 Lightning was replaced last year with a Ecoboost F150.

Walt, how far is the DeSoto drag strip from Sebring? A lot of off season testing for a variety of manufactures occurs there. It's not hard to imagine a preference for testing a mule or race car someplace not subject to blizzard conditions.

Veek,

It is about a half hour from Sebring. I have been told by many drivers it is a good track. Cars do not hook up very well on a cold track. Track temps and air have a huge affect on 1/4 mile times. There are many reasons why this track is used in the winter. I will call you and share with you what I know, I have since spoke to my contact again. Sorry to say I wil not post it here, I don't take being called a liar very well. And yes many cars have been tested there, another major company was there after Ford. I will share the details with you.

While visiting the Henry Ford Museum this week a staff member mentioned the new GT was coming to the museum to be displayed.
Could be just scuttlebutt --- I'll be there with my camera if it is.

CNBC is reporting that the new Ford GT will be a 250 car production at $400K each for delivery in the second haft of 2016. I think that Ford missed the boat and should have built a rear engine turbo to compete in the Alfa Romeo 4c size and price range or maybe do both. Dealers that are lucky to get the new Ford GT will add a substantial hike in price due to the very small volume and exclusivity. They should be trading in 1M+ in a very short time.

One million for a V6 Ford in the same ring as V12s, V10s, as well as N/A and turbo V8s? I don't think so. If it was the only supercar on the market then sure but there are a lot of equals out there now and even greater cars to come that no exclusivity is going to overcome. Its new and it does have some very unique design cues that have the market abuzz right now. By the time it gets in here 2016 things will have moved on. It won't be yesterdays new by any stretch but it's also not going to be a million dollar car in the real market. Sure, someone will spend it at auction in some boozed infused vulgar display of wealth and the troglodytes will point to that as a true market representation just as they do with the Ford GT now. It is a fine looking machine. Too bad it will be forever hamstrung with the stigma of it's V6 power.

I think the V6 stigma you refer to Mike is a generational opinion, the young folk have not had the big block V8's to be in awe of when growing up. I came in late for that myself (unfortunately). I think a lot of the younger lads have no dramas with highly strung turbo power plants. There are a lot more of them on the road now.
I would like to see a V8 option for the new GT, perhaps it's a ploy by ford to increase the life of the car by introducing an uprated driveline later on?
Cheers, Gus.

I've heard that argument and I'm wondering which generation? All the young kids I know are into LS power and there's not a lot of love for the ricer crowd. If that's the market Ford is targeting then good luck I suppose. The people that can afford a half million dollar supercar are not the same people that are into V-Tec Yo

It's a shame that they're producing so few of them. You'll never see one on the road. I don't get the point of that.

Merc SLR Mclaren was a low production number car as well. Thats no guarantee of success.
