Mark I Gulf Livery Specs and Details

Anyone know where I can find accurate Gulf paint specs for a RCR Mark I to include paint codes, stripe widths, etc?

Also: Where can you get stickers for the sponsor logos? Are the white meatballs painted on? What about the numbers?

Leaning towards Chassis 1075 (the #6 Gulf car) so any info on exterior specs and detail is much appreciated!

Thanks!!

Just do a little search on here and you’ll find alot of great detailed info on what you’re after.

Here’s a beginning, very similar to Triumph’s Powder blue, marigold orange, I think stripe is royal blue approx 3/8-1/2in wide.

Porsche 328 and 019 is also close in colour. Best of luck.

I have chased the paint codes for the Gulf Livery for several weeks. The PPG codes I was given were not in the computer system of the PPG paint store. Well two of them were not. The dark blue stripe PPG code was good.

I did a search for SPF paint. I tried using the 2006 Ford GT Heritage codes. The GL code for the blue was a good one but in BASF paint. The orange, we could not get.

Then I called Eddie who has contacts with Ford. He gave me a formula for the orange which is a fleet color. But it's a BASF code that would not convert at the PPG store. Eddie then suggested I call Lee at Holman Moody. I did and Lee answered the phone. Great Guy. Told me to call back Monday and he would have the codes. Or I could call his painter David Brown whom I think he said was located in N.C.
I called David and had a long conversation with him. Another Great Guy. David has painted original GT 40s and does a lot of Superperformance cars.
He had a local paint store (Dupont) to mix the colors to match SPF. He read me the formula and then texted me pictures of the cans. In one picture I can see three GT 40. Looks like a road trip is in order. He told me several stories and I love a good story. I finally told him I had to let me go back to work. It was late Friday afternoon and he was probably done for the day but I wanted to get the paint sample before Monday morning.

I took the paint formulas to Tommy who said he could not mix them but there were two Dupont (Axalta bought Dupont paint division) stores that could. It was late on Friday so I picked the closest one 10 miles away. The boss was gone for the day but a woman mixed the orange for me. She could only do a pint mix which was way more than I wanted. Could not divide by four so I had to buy a pint $77. So be it.
Saturday I drove the 25 miles the other way to O'Reilly. They mixed the blue in a sample amount. Cost $20. The PPG store has mixed three sample for no charge. I will buy my paint from them.
Monday we will do a spray out card on the three colors. Then I will take them to the PPG store and see if they can scan them and convert to a PPG formula. Then I will have all three colors in the same brand.
They could not convert the Dupont codes to PPG. Spray out card were a low percent of the correct color. How do you say shst in Chinese!
Now I have four blues, all are suppose to be the same blue and three orange cards. I let 12 people chose the pair they liked best. 11 of the 12 picked the same pair. That's the colors I am going with.
The dark blue is a good color. The other two are close (I hope).

the Llewellyn Rylands pigments are 3707 Zenith Blue, and 3957 Tangerine, with corresponding Dulux color codes of

Powder Blue #P030-8013,

and Marigold #P030-3393.

Best of luck when you buy your paint. Buy a sample and get your painter to do a spray out card to check the color.

Okay Ragtime Kid -
I don’t know how you snuck in without bothering to read our rules but we require REAL NAMES to be used here.
So unless your Momma named you Ragtime, you will need to go to your user control panel and make the appropriate changes.
Thank you!

Randy, while I appreciate what you are saying, did your mother name you "Big-Foot" ? Or did Ricks mom name him "Mark IV" ? Sometime ago before the upgrade only peoples REAL name showed up. Now with peoples handles, you can not use the search function in the members list if you want to find their posts, or contact information. I prefer to communicate with people using their REAL names, and enjoyed this forum more before this went away.

Brian / All -
These are Ron’s rules and he owns the site. The Real-Names requirement was in place a very long time before we migrated to Xenforo software.
The only time you see my Big-Foot logon ID is when you click on my Avatar. Otherwise it’s Randy V ... I also have a signature with my real name and always have.
It’s not a lot to ask....

As a matter of fact she did! The "Mark IV" goes back many years to my time with Autokraft and the AC MK IV. That my real name is first and the handle follows I assume Ron is OK with it.

Just logging back in after several weeks offline. Thank you Morton, Rick and Dwight for your very helpful responses! Much appreciated.

Apologies to those who were offended by my registering with a "handle".

From the post above

"Ask virtually any motoring enthusiast around the world about "Gulf Colours" and they will come back with "Blue and Orange" - such is the impact that Pantone reference 290C (the light blue) and 165C (Orange) have made. "

I have this info from a long time ago. It may be useful.
Powder Blue PO30-8013
Marigold PO30-3393

"an original Production Car Record Sheet shows the Light Blue code to be (P030-8013) and the Marigold (P030-3393) both being British Leyland (Triumph) colours"

"here it is for the gulf colors(the originals):

Berger Ref 1125 Standard Triumph Powder blue
Berger Ref 1465 Triumph Marigold

Ps: I was told that the dark stripe between the orange and blue should be dark blue."
045 RENAULT ORANGE
051 TRIUMPH POWDER BLUE
I have also been told the following are the same :-
Berger paints No 1125 standard triumph powder blue ICI no. 8013.
No 1456 triumph marigold ICI no 3393.

Powder blue (PPG 12163)
Topaz (orange) (PPG 60812)
Royal Blue for thin stripe between orange stripe and powder blue (PPG 13126)

Cheers
Mike

Dwight, the PPG codes I got about a year ago are as follows. PPG 12163 (ici8013) Blue, PPG 60812 (ici3393) Orange (Topaz), and PPG 13126 Dark Blue. I did research and this is what I found. I have not verified if it is accurate.

Would you mind sharing Dave Browns phone number. I'm hoping he might have the paint codes for the dark blue/orange on GT40P/1049 car. Thanks.
