yersinia pestis is a pussy compared to this virus BTW. The most recent outbreak of pneumonic plague was in India. Even with substandard healthcare, it didn’t result in a pandemic.

Yes, during a time when they had no understanding of infectious diseases.

Ever wonder why Europe has had no local epidemics (let alone a pandemic) of the plague in the last 200 years?

That knowledge and technology is not protecting us much from pandemics resulting from these novel viruses that jump species.

Jammin man speaks teh truth.

Hope everyone here is safe and well and glad politics were finally eradicated from this place. A good move.

Take care all.

Hi all, going ok here in Melbourne. Am still at work, only doing it from home with the rest of the family cooped up as well. So trying to manage kids and work at the same time is taking longer. not getting much progress on the GT40. need to get better organised.

The rare times now that my wife gets out, she's observing a notable change in the politeness of folks she sees (people are starting to act civil again). Fewer people aggravating fewer people. Mother nature is probably breathing a big sigh of relief at this point, as it seems life has become much simpler and less stressed at this point. I've worked from home now for 2 weeks, and expect this to continue for another 6-8 minimum. Working in the electric utility trade, I've observed interesting load changes as a result of our societal changes, and we are all holding our breath as we watch generators (very few at this time) come offline due to personnel issues related to COVID-19. Hoping this continues to be a rare situation.

I've noticed it too, the people are kind and polite. I could also see that the air is less polluted, I can't explain but it feels different.

well, the fuel prices have dropped a lot, supply and demand and all. our tank in out car is still 3/4 full 3 weeks later and id imagine that is the same for most people, so its probably a very big decrease in the particulate mater that is being emitted from vehicles. the vast majority of planes are grounded. if you follow any of the airline groups on face book there are photos of complete fleets of planes lined up in storage on taxiways and other hard stands at air ports the world over. So again a huge reduction.

I'll say it now...I think I could willingly take the hit on my investments as permanent toward my retirement, knowing that this much quieter world would continue indefinitely. I like it. Yes, there are some challenges I'm dealing with, but wow, this is like back when I was a young adult in the 70's in terms of traffic, people, and impacts to our environment (sound, water, air, resources). Yeah I know, a pipedream while others seriously taking a big hit with all of this.

Check out the traffic cams on the 'Vegas Strip. Note the number of cars...or, I should say, the LACK of them. This time of day traffic should be bumper to bumper.
Then try to find more than a dozen pedestrians on the sidewalks.

To be honest, I had a look at some of those camera`s and was surprised at the level of activity....are they meant to be in shut down?

....are they meant to be in shut down?

Yeeeup.
I've checked those cameras at different times of the day over the past 3 days and haven't seen more than 3 or 4 pedestrians within camera range on the sidewalks...and perhaps a couple dozen cars on the 'Strip, total. NORMALLY the vehicle traffic is bumper-to-bumper and the sidewalks are packed.
What time of day did you check...and was it a week day or weekend?
'Really curious to know!

Hello all,
My wife and myself work for the same company, because we are not essential we are now on unemployment. I am from Long Island N.Y. so we are on a lock down. Tried the social distance thing but the wife kept trying to get in the house (lol). We have no symptoms and are doing well. Been spending lots of time on the GTD and all the other projects that I have been wanting to finish. My dad fortunately has been keeping distance and following the rules, a sign of relief being that he has Parkinson's.

Wish all of you well and hope we all get through this soon.

Regards,
Dan

I finally did a deep-clean (so to speak) of he garage during the past couple of weeks, and can proudly say it's cleaner than it's been in 15 years. Getting rid of a lot of stuff I know I'll never use again, reorganizing storage (making it more efficient), and basically making the garage less of a shop of horrors environment my wife was afraid to enter.

Tomorrow will be a beautiful day in South Carolina. We don't have a lock down law in place here, so I'm going to take my car out for a long drive to get away from the 24/7 news about the virus. But I'll have no contact with anything other than my car. Please be safe everyone. We'll get through this and hopefully we will appreciate our families and communities more than ever. I know that politics are not a permitted topic on this thread. But whatever your politics are, let's hope this crisis brings us together more than it divides us. In many countries there has been far too much division in recent years. We are all temporary residents of this planet. Let's respect and protect each other while we're here.
