Problem with "rear gulf arches"

Hi,

I wanted to know if this problem has happened to anyone, what do I expose: what can I do to "fill in" the rear wheel arches, since the wheels stay deep inside the "gulf arches". I have a 12 inches wide rims (from image BRM style with central lock) and 295/50 AVON tyres , but still they still remain too deep within the body. I would like to get 2 inches per side to fill the rear arches.

Maybe unscrewing the uniball screws of the uprights to get more space (attached picture with red circle)? Wheel spacers? Both?

Any suggestion?

Thank you in advance!

longer suspension arms? but check your geometry isn't ruined as you do it and also for clearance on roll brace strut for trailing links.

Personally i wouldn't wind out the heim joints that far but that maybe just me!

I don't think 2" spacers will work with pin drive wheels. Overreaching with the rose joints will be bad for stress issues. Longer wishbones is probably the way to go but you will also need longer driveshafts. I you haven't painted the rear clip a cut and shut job on the arches may be quicker and cheaper.

I see a new set of wishbones, control arms and axles in your future. I would not space them out for reasons stated above plus the loading on the uprights and bearings would likely not be tolerated for long..

Cannot Image supply you with wheel shells that proved the right offset for this. Are these 3-piece wheels? If that doesn't work, yeah, the longer arms are the next best option. May loose a tiny bit of camber gain with suspension movement, but wouldn't think it would be much.

Any manufacturer of modular wheels should be able to customize the wheel offset to suit your needs. Bill Jongbloed used to build high quality modular wheels but I think he sold the company some years ago.

I have 3 piece Halibrand wineglass wheels from Compomotive. As Compomotive is out of business Image Wheels suplied me the correct wheelhalf's to get the ET right on spot.

I have 6 inch outer rims to fill my Gulf arches and wouldnt use anything less if I changed wheels because of the deep dished look on the Gulf cars

2in or 4in arches? (4in arches was used with 14x15 wheels)
Is the 12 inches measured from inside the bead or outside of rim? If so, then wheel is 11in from inside beads.
Inside offset?
Could fit 1inch spacer behind lower arm bracket, swap to thicker CV joints to make driveshafts longer, make a longer top suspension tube, change the wheel inset with different drums.... or fit wider wheels in 16in or 17in :)

change one thing and everything else changes with it.... geometry definitely changes.

If using Lee Dawson 2in wide arches on the SGT and Wheels as per SGT spec, then your wheels fit into arches with correct adjustment and driveshaft lengths. Check paulbav on this forum. Similar setup to yours.

I have both 2 & 4in arches rear clams on mine, no problems.

Thank you all for the replies.

Rereading my message, perhaps it is incorrect to speak of 2 inches on each side. I am attaching two photographs so that you can evaluate for yourselves if it is 1 inch, 2 or whatever you think I need (maybe that's the way it is and I don't need anything, I don't know).

Also tell you that the body was provided to me by SGT (I don't know if it is 4 inches wide each side or 2, perhaps you can see this point clearer).

Of all the solutions that you propose to me, the one that sounds the best is to change the ET of the rim. Fortunately it is 3 pieces from image, so Do you think that this operation of changing the ET of the tires can be done by any tire manufacturer? It is for not sending the tires to the UK if I can do it in my country.

Thank you again.

Regards,

Hi, thats the 2in arches. Body made by Lee Dawson. If you have 4in inside wheel. How long are your driveshafts?
Thickness of CV joints. How many threads on rose joint lower arm visible?

I have 10.5in/ 295s rear wheels, measured inside bead and they sit tightly in the 2in widearch.

looks like you have more adjustment to do.

how much travel do you have in driveshafts?

Thank you Morten,

There are not any visible threads visible on rose joint, and Regarding your question of how much distance the driveshafts have, I inform you that I have margin (or so I think). Maybe 2 more centimeters.

Your GT40 looks amazing!

3 piece wheels dissasemble as easy as BBS wheels and can be done by yourself.

Yeah, this should be easy for the end user to perform. If the Image bolt pattern for their 3-piece wheels have a tight tolerance, you just about can't go wrong in disassembly/reassembly. Depending on the shell sizes you currently have (outer shell), they may be the longest shell they offer already, and their shortest shell (for the inner shell), can get pretty short. You may end up spending less for complete new wheels...who knows.

It might be a good idea to replace the old bolts with new ones from the manufacturer as long as you are taking your wheels apart.

Thank you !

I had contact with image wheels to try to get new inner and outer rims.

Anybody is capable to read the number grabbed in the inner rim?

I attached you a picture when I had the wheel out

I see you have alot of outwards adjustment left on your suspension. Looks like easy adjustment fix to me if you already have 12in rims and 295s I have same 295, ally uprights and UN1 on my SGT mk1, same arches and all fits perfect.
I would look into your suspension setup before going to 14in wide, not many tyres to choose from... perhaps Michelin TB15 when they are available from manufacturer.

Many options. Easy to unscrew rose joint 20mm, shim 15-20 on lower bracket, fit 8-10mm wheel spacer. Fit thicker CV joints, extend top tube. Easy and non costly job. Or get longer lower arms made. No big deal.

I'll send you some measurements when I get back to my GTs soon. Its many good SGT buildlogs on here that are worth going through.
