016 shifter mechanisim

Having recently purchased my first 016 box, when I got it I see the shifter rod exits out the rhs and not out of the rear like the 012 box, and as the rod shifter is on the rhs of the cockpit in the 5000 which this box will be an update for, I wanted to keep the rod change, as there's no room for a cable shifter. so this morning after a few cups of coffee I came up with a system that will work a treat, I have 80% finished it, just have make a mount for the rod end to support the shaft and its ready to connect to my existing rod change, I will post a pic on Monday when I finish it and if anybody wants one give me a yell and ill knock another one up.

Looking forward to seeing the pics. All the 016 boxes I have seen have the shifter rod coming from the left side of the box.

Hi Eric, the box I have has enough rod poking out of both sides to connect it either side, but if you went to the left you would have to turn the shifter mechanisim upside down to retain the normat H pattern no biggy.
any way all it consists of is a ball on a stick which fits into a tube fixed to the selector shaft

then that's fitted to a shaft which connects to the shift rod, I have just mocked it up with a rod end , but will run a 50mm long bush to give it a bit more support, and will also allow me to put a positive stop at each end of the rod to take shock loads of the ball and pin



ill post a pick of the complete unit with the bush when I get around to making the mount plate up. ran out of material.

had a couple of goes at trying to make it work then had a brain wave the other day, early model Mini has a uni on the gearbox which allows for 2 dimensional movement, so I managed to get hold of one for $20 and made it up this morning, and it works a treat,
a pic of the finished set up

nice short positive throw. very happy with the out come.

Dave that's just a reminder for me when I make the shifter, selector in and back for reverse and forward for 5th, I have remarked my sketch don't panic.
