Quite a few plans afoot as Ian has outlined in his previous thread,
Pete is talking about coming to the 24hr Le Mans next year for the whole week
so there is a good chance of a repeat event. Last time we had a gt40 gathering in Marlow it was at the Queens Head gastro pub here in the village and I guess quite a few of the guys will be taking their steeds to the Le Mans Classic which is usually three or four weeks after the 24 hrs race, so anything could happen. Its one of my plans at any rate.
With so much [petrol] going down in 2014 (WEC, F1, 24hr, MotoGP, Revival, Classic, and the Revival to name but a few), it should be an incredible year.
Why are these events suddenly becoming so popular? Could it be the retirement years of the so called baby boomers ? This might be one answer :At the 24 hrs this year I noticed a whole load of campers (people in tents) who were a similar age to me and on talking to a few of them, it certainly was high on their list to come to Le Mans after retiring.
I invariably have to work at the 24 hr but I plan to let my hair down (yes - I still have a full head of hair and go to the OAP haircut day on Thursdays twice a month) at the Classic next year (- I was there last year but gave up on the Saturday in the heavy rain).
So, back to the main thrust, Pete will be here and Le Mans in 2014 for what will be a fun period of about two weeks though we were planning to go to or come back from Le Mans via Arromanche les Bains and the D-Day beaches, followed by the bridge at Caen and the 6th Airborne Museum, and then via the new Australian memorial at Fromelles which I haven't seen yet.
Jim , you can fill your boots really. Incidentally Henry Atherton - who did some work on your car when it was with Kerry Adams - works at the 24hr Le Mans and does the communications for Racemet. (on the Sunday night after the race he is invariably 'tired' and needs reviving in Arnage so we go to town as it were and help him out)
You choose.
