My heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all those that served and took part in the "D Day" landings that took place 67 years ago.

My generation will never know what courage it took to do what they did - nor will we ever know hat horrors they witnessed

From me to all those surviving veterans my heartfelt thanks

Ian

Same here Ian.
I regularly fly over the Normandy beaches on the way back into the UK. And the sheer scale of the American war cemetery just behind Omaha beach is silent testimony to those that never came home.

Roger that everyone. When I was fit enough, I purposely made a tour of the allied WWI and WWII War Graves in the European and Mediterranean Theatre (including the German ones). Crete springs to mind, the British Cemetry at Souda Bay is a stunning oasis of greenery in a rather arid region whilst the German Cemetry at Maleme is little more austere, Nordic even but moving for all that. I always make the point of signing the visitors books and it is a big surprise (and very meaningful) to see German visitors writing messages in British books and vice versa.

You are right St Laurent sur Mer @ Omaha Beach is a stunning sight and all of them so beautifully kept in honour of the fallen - all 9,500 of them.

Unfortunately, whilst remembering allied sacrifices, I cannot help ponder that their legacy in some ways has been squandered by recent generations including our own, and the memory is all the more poignant for that..

Thanks Ian

In 2007 Frances and I went to the Spa GP, on our way, we made the Pilgramage to Normandy. Very moving, very, very sad.
