A question of aesthetics

Ferrari 312P and McLaren M6GT
Two very similarly shaped cars.
I think the Ferrari is one of the best looking cars ever designed but I find the McLaren to be not quite right somehow. Can anyone see why this should be as the differences must be quite small. Here are pics and videos of both cars and even the same colour so you can play spot the reason. Don't be swayed by the engine sound as the Ferrari wins that one hands down. If you come up with a good explanation I have two pics of two very similar naked ladies where I have the same aesthetic issue.

The Ferrari looks like it was taken out of a mold wet whereupon someone decided it didn't look quite right and therefore stepped on it from above as two others grabbed its nose and tail and puuuuuulled in order to make it lower and wider and add a little length in the process...and the car 'set up' before they were finished.

The McL looks like it was designed from the ground up to be exactly that low, wide and proportionally long from the get-go...and the car turned out just as McL intended 'right out of the box' w/o the need to do a follow-up 'fix' on it.

The 312P is much more svelte, and the M6GT more "chiseled" looking.

The Ferrari looks like its been squashed.

The M6GT looks fantastic.

There again I am biased as the M6GT is one of my all time favorite cars.

I have collected lots of parts to build an M6GT including an original bodyshell.

Who ever added that awful rear spoiler to the M6GT in the video should be shot.

Mike,

To me just looking at the front with the McLaren the air intake is too wide so the bonnet does not taper down as smoothly as on the Ferrari.

Likewise to me the bonnet nostril breaks up the smoothness of the bonnet line.

The McLaren is the better looking of the two. The Ferrari does look like it was squished. It looks like a kit car gone wrong.

M6GT has a simplistic beauty, much like a basically beautify woman that needs no make-up. The Ferrari on the other hand has the fake eyelashes and excessive make-up that is arrousingly attractive, but not long lasting.

I don't understand why you say the McLaren is "off". If anything it's the Farago that's out of whack with its squashed cabin.

A good friend of mine purchased a Tornado cars M6gt replica about fifteen years ago, it was an on the road work in progress car just needing shakedown adjustments. A great looking car and I often wondered why they stopped production.

The Manta Montage is what you are thinking about, and yes, it was a fair representative of the McLaren, and it would have been a decent start for someone wishing to create closer replica.

Active Power made a better looking replica of the M6GT, and then there was one other producer that made the "Marauder" which was again, a pretty close representative the the M6GT.
