I was wondering that as well, Chris. When I click the "Who's Online" button there are usually twice as many anonymous users as registered members.
Perhaps they are interested in GT40s but don't feel they have anything to contribute yet. I like to think they're conducting their research with the help of the "search" button. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Okay, you convinced me. I've registered.
By way of introduction, I'm dying to have a GT40, but I'm just a wanabe at this point. My wife says I have to restore her 1967 Mustang before I start any other project, and that's not a terrible thing. On the positive side, we've just moved so that I have garage space for both. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well, in my case, and I am sure it is true for others,
I choose not to have my machine remeber who I am,
and therefore, when I peruse the board, if my cookie
has expired, I become anonymous.

I'm one of the anonymous lurkers as well. My name is Brad, and I've been learning about GT40's for almost a year now. It started when I just happened to be browsing through eBay Motors, and found a Manta CanAm for sale. It was in pretty rough shape, but the mid-engine V8/RWD platform really sparked my interest. Once I found all the people making GT40 replicas, the decision was easy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif They're the perfect combination of old-school styling, massive power, great handling, and no-frills driving.
I come from a very different world of cars. All of my knowledge is in the Mitsu 3000GT/Dodge Stealth. They are technological marvels, sporting twin turbos, twin intercoolers, all-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, 24V DOHC V6, electronically adjustable suspension, electronically adjustable exhaust, active front and rear spoilers, and a myriad of other gizmos and toys. The downside is that they're overly complex, and everything is so tightly crammed in there that it's a pain to try to work on it. Plus they weigh over 4000 LBS with a driver in it!!!!! So you can imagine the drool coming from my mouth when I saw the <2500-lb curb weight of a GT40, combined with an engine & tranny that could be removed quicker than I could change the oil on my Stealth!
So my goal is to take the advice of my father on the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid), and go back to a car that uses some simple physics to make it brutally fast. F=ma: FUN = Mass (very little) times Acceleration (whole lot) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I attended the SAAC Convention in Nashville last month, and met Joseph from GA and his beautiful blue CAV replica. Also saw the black CAV, the blue GT40 Australia assaulting the track, and the red GT40 tearing it up. I should be one of the youngest guys (22) to build a GT40 replica; hopefully Meat will make my dream financially attainable with a single-donor kit soon!
Can't wait to meet some more owners in the future, and become an owner myself one day. Until then, I'll keep learning more and more about these amazingly simplistic scream machines. Okay, that's my speech! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Question. If I install a bundle of snakes backwards on the Mustang so they exit the grill, paint it blue with an orange stripe, and always drive it in reverse, do I still need a GT40? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Some time I feel it could be seen as overwhelming for some people. Not all have the knowledge and experiance that you have, even though I personally know you are more than willing to help and give advice (which I am most grateful!). I see your point though. The bit that gets me is people not filling in where they are located.

I, like Ian (and probably many others), do not login most of the time, but check the forum fairly regularly just to read any new posts. Obviously if I want to post a reply I then have to login.
Therefore I (and probably most of us) appear as anonymous most of the time.

I am fully aware of this, and make use of this at home. However, when at work (none of us would read the forum at work would we /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) I deliberately do not - I wouldn't want someone else to log into the forum as me while I was out of my office (too much hassle to lock/unlock workstation every time).

I’ve taken the plunge also, after nearly a year of perusing this board among others, I’ve decided to get a GT40 replica rather than an FFR Cobra. Everyone seems very nice and helpful here.
Are there any events in or near NC, USA that I could take a look at an example of one of these beasts?

Ron is in NC, maybe you could get a look at his RF. When my car is here in MD (this year, God willing) EVERYONE can come look at it. I plan to be seriously away from work and maybe a little inebriated too, when it arrives...I've only been waiting thirty-five years for this, hopefully it won't be forty years.

I have been researching the 40's for some time now and have found the forum invaluable. After visits to the Aussie manufactures I have now decided to build a RF car which was ordered last week. Now that I am a real player I am sure that my contriution will be much greater and I look forward to chatting with you all more often. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ron is in Raleigh, NC with an RF under construction. I am in VA Beach with a CAV demonstrator being finished up. I am sure there are others in this area.

Thanks, I'm in Greensboro, so I'm only about an hour and a half away.. I'm still in the "gathering information" stage, so any insight that you might have I'd be grateful.
I really would like to take you up on the offer to see your RF. I've never put a kit car together before, but I've restored several old Mustangs, a 68 Z/28, and a 69 Jag XKE among others so I figure I could muddle my way through it. With luck I won't have to replace too many parts after I break them trying to install them "my way" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Now if I could only find a 40 chassis that could hold a 03 Cobra motor... does anyone realize what a 4 valve motor with crossover exhaust would sound like????? But I digress....
