Attaching SLC Windows

Trying to get materials ordered before the SLC delivers later this month. Question, to attach SLC polycarbonate windows to the gelcoated fiberglass surface, do you use 3M VHB double sided tape? If so what width and thickness? 1/2"? 20mil? This is a cool youtube on the material, pretty amazing stuf: YouTube - 3M VHB tape

Arn't they hinged so they can go up and down? (i'm probably just going to leave mine off because who the heck needs windows, lol)

I gotta have a/c or i'll be in a 110f oven in Texas. i know Fran used a 3m tape to secure the windows, headlight covers, tailights, rear glass, etc. The stuff is $70 a roll so i don't want to get the wrong dimension/thickness.

I have used the 3M VHB product before on chassis applications and it tended to yellow. Do they have a black UV resistent color available? Remember, if you paint your window edges black and use adhesive, the bond will only be as strong as the paint is adhered to the polycarbonate/glass. Prep it properly. Same goes for the body side.

Uhhhhhh, are you sure glass would be secured by tape? I know it's strong, but still..........

for added safety you can always add a few black plastic countersunk screws that fit flush to the lexan which blend into a black paint border. Theres enough meat in the panel to drill and tap as the GRP is pretty think there.
A rubber weather seal can be snapped around also before lexan fitting which neatens up this edge from the inside view. As its thicker than the panel when the lexan is put on it squeezes the rubber to a seal.

my rear lexan was border painted and not prepd properly which caused another headache as it peeled imediately in certain areas. It got worse in the sun. Be very careful on fitting the rear lexan.

i would either rely on AC alone or add pop it helicopter style vents just above where the rear view mirror sits.

I think this issue was on "least of my problems" list :shy:

Craig - Nice looking interior. Thanks for the tip on the windows. Roughly how many countersunk screws did you add per side window / rear window? Did that weatherstripping in the picture come withthe SLC? How's you SVA inspection going? Can't you just bribe them, like here in Texas?!

Cam
from what I've seen worrying about your windows is a bit like booking a 2 week holiday to kabul and worrying if youv'e packed enough mosquito repellant :-)
