Aussie opinions on Yella Terras, please

Gooday,

I would like to know what the fellas down under think about Yella Terra rockers. I am looking real hard at a set of the Platinum Twin Shaft rockers for my engine. I was pleased to see that they subscribe to the mid-lift theory of rocker setup and they sure make them sound sweet. I haven't heard anything bad or even slightly negative about them here in the US. I don't know if that is because they haven't been used very much here or if they are really that good.

I didn't plan it this way, but it seems like I am always looking at Australian parts. These would make the third component set, if I use them, as I already have a Romac balancer and my timing set comes from Australia also.

Yella terra makes one of the most popular rocker upgrades for the Chevy LS1.

A lot of the chevy forums will have information. I have looked there and I found only one instance of rocker failure and Yellaterra replaced it under waranty.

Thanks guys! Just thought of another tie; the motor in the car now was supposed to go to a Falcon If I put all of this stuff into an RF will that qualify me for dual citizenship??

Excellent product, have used chev units in 4 cyl engine at 9000 rpm. The crank broke but not the rockers!!
This is one aussie company that was using mid lift technology a long, long time ago. And your Romac balancer won't let you down.

Thanks for the links. I knew there was someone in Australia making Porsche gear sets, but I never new who it was. I am guessing that Powerhaus II as distributor has come about within the last year or two. That kind of sucks for us, since the US distributor tends to tack on a hefty margin.

I am also finding that with the Yella Terras. First, a couple of the places that carried them, no longer do. I have only found one web retail outlet and it is realy a distributor's retail arm. I have found a local dealer that can get them through a distributor, but then the state tax on them sends the price way above the price of the online source I found and they want to charge me freight since it is a special order item. I bet one of you could buy them retail in Australia, send them to me, make a few bucks and I'd still come out ahead. Are there any websites in Australia that sell Yella Terras??

I'd guess that is for a set of the stud mount rockers. The ones I'd like to get are part no. YT6610, which are the Platinum Twin Shaft rockers. Basically, the rockers for each cylinder are on a single shaft mounted on a base that bolts into the stud receivers. I have found one online source for these that wants $692 for a set and a local head shop (cylinder head that is) that can get them for $657, BUT the local shop has to then charge me nearly $50 in state sales tax :-( and some amount of freight since they are special order. What I have yet to find out is if they are charging me shipping all the way from Australia or just from their wharehouse in Louisville, KY.

Does your local source have a name, website or some other contact information? At this point, I'll try anywhere in hopes of saving a few bucks.

Lynn makes a good point. I am on the look out for the Davies Craig water pump kit and booster pump. These are also made in Australia. GBP 300 +vat in UK. Any good places to buy them (websites?) in Australia? or anyone out there with one they don't want?

Where do you Aussie DRB guys obtain your transaxles? I'm looking for a G50/50, is there a good Aussie source or do I have to go Stateside or Europe. Any input or reccomendations much appreciated.

I bought a DC water pump for my Hayabusa engined clubman, i got it direct from Davies Craig. Just paid with cc and they shipped it. I know i'm local, but it might be worth a try contacting them and see if they'll ship one to UK.

Well this is to close out the rocker arm discussions. I just purchased an unused set of Jesel KSS-516060 Sportsman shaft mount rockers from a guy who has switched to racing pure stock. He had these for a set of AFR 225s that he ended up not buying and then he sold his car and made the switch to pure stock.

The Yella Terra Twin Shafts were going to be my next choice. I am sure they are very fine rockers and I wouldn't hesitate to use them from a technical stand point. The issue I had was distribution related. No one stocks these here in the US and I'd hate to have to wait 2-6 weeks for parts if something broke. I called Miller about the PVS Precision Stand rockers, which I am sure are good pieces also, but he couldn't even give me a part number, so I don't want to be their QC tester for new parts.

So, when I saw a new, unused set of Jesel rocker arms for ~$200 under retail, I just had to jump on it. Obviously, these can't be as good as their $1600 SMRs, but they still have to be a step up from pedestal or stud mounts. Jesel does have a reputation to maintain, so I doubt they would sell junk. Bottom line, I am comfortable with the purchase.

I am now down to a very short list of parts to get: the cam itself - Comp FW XR268 R-10 (P/N 35-769-8), solid roller lifters- still plan on using Crower 66215H, valve springs - will probably be Comp 953-16, the retainers - will probably be steel Comp 741s, but I have an eye on a set of titanium Comp 732s. If I can get them at a price close to the 741s, I'll use them; otherwise, I don't think the extra cost for full retail is worth it for me. The pushrods will have to wait until I assemble the heads on the motor and get an accurate measurement.
