Bobs GTD

Ha All,
I took the hole weekend last week and finished the trans and it is finally in it's home in the car that was a long weekend. I also made a so called glove box in the door as you can see from the pics but I have a question for all of you guys. what can I use for limit straps for this door, I've looked around and have found nothing right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Wau, cool looking....

I use normal seat belts from a junk yard car to hold doors and hoods....very nice and convenient to use, light and cheap ....
If you need a pic let me know ...

cheers

Hi Bob,
how about using a push-bike inner brake cable, covered with heat-shrink and small bits of brake pipe bundy cable to make the crimp connectors for the end. Or just use nylon cord crimped into a couple of electrical connectors.

Keep up the excellant work

Andy

Bob, "right" is very subjective, and what I did may not suit you, but here it is anyway. I used standard 2" seatbelt nylon (from a local fabric supply house) sewn to the size needed (by my wife) and attached using some aluminum plates I fabricated for the purpose. Looks a bit nicer than the standard GTD-supplied hardware and works fine for me.

Sorry, just re-read and realized you were only referring to the glove-box type doors. Please disregard (can't delete post).
Mark

Ha All,
Just an update I got the rims all polished up and found black lug nuts and finished off by mounting the spinners. I was also able to mount the rear bulkhead glass, that was a Bi*ch to do took me an hour to put in. My switch labels came in from the engraver and those are finally done also, that's it for now.
Se Ya,
Bob

Ha All,
I have been very busy with the car over the memorial day weekend I took the car to my friends shop and we spent 2 full days wiring the hole car, that trailer was a monster, thanks to my buddy Trig for the use.
I just got back from the first little run in the car, Yes it is finally on the street after 3 long years of work and a lot of blood sweat and tears. I would like to thank everyone who followed my build and gave there comments and advice without all of you I probably would not have made it to this point. This is not the end of the journey but just a new chapter, I still have a lot of things that I want to do to improve the car, but for now ITS TIME TO HAVE FUN!!! Please check out the latest pics and I'll keep posting.
Thanks,
Bob

Ha Bob!
Glad you got it out and running around! The car is very well built, and I am going to steal some of your ideas! (I tried to call you yesterday, but I can see you were bz!) Congrats, Scott

I can't tell from the pictures. Do you have a redundant latch system on the rear body work? IMHO, and others I suspect, the stock latches are not enough. Most of us with GTD's have installed hood pins, or something similar, at the top of the rear body cover in addition to the catches.

Several rear engine covers have blown open on these cars over the years, and your car is so nice I would not want to hear that you have had a similar experiance. Really pretty yellow! Nicely done car!

Ha ALL,
A good friend told me that once you own a GT40 its never really done, I guess he was right I've already added some things. I didn't like the breathers on the valve covers so I have fabed up some remote breather canisters and mounted them like the pics show. I'm sure there will be more in the future but that's it for now.
See Ya,
Bob
