BRM 17' wheels

What mark/ dims type of tires would you suggest to put onto my GTD40?
Usage is Road/Day track.

Front: 8 '
Rear: 10,5 '

I was thinking about the Michelin Pilot Sport.

Any R spec tyre from Yokohama, Toyo, Dunlop etc would be the best -- the grip level of "pilot sports" is appalling compared to the above

Fred,

I have always been a fan of Toyo tires. Their grip is great and my impression has been that their wet grip is almost better than their dry grip.

I did, however, once buy a set of Y rated Toyos to get longer tread life (which is good to begin with) and found that the grip was quite noticably less than the Z rated tires (these were Proxes in the mid 90s time frame.)

I just bought a set of Sumitomo HTR-Z's from the Tire Rack for about $370 including shipping and the works. 245/40ZR17 and 315/35ZR17. I also like the top of the line Kumo's. For a track day tire I would buy a second set of wheels and run Hoozier DOT slicks.

If you buy really expensive street tires like the Michelins and burn them off on the track you could have run a much cheaper tire on the street like above and nearly paid for the slicks. Your street tires will last many years and so will the slicks.

The extra cost of the second set of wheels is a one time thing and if you intend to make a hobbie of track days then it's worth it. I believe you will get there in the end anyway. There really isn't a dual use tire anyway. Not after you have tried to run down somebody on slicks.

I need to correct the brain fart in my previous post: I don't think there was (or is for that matter) a "Y" rated tire. The bottom line is that that I tried the next speed rating under "Z" that was available then. (I think they were probably "V" rated.)

Kuhmo Victoracers are sticky and last a decent length of time. If you have a huge tire budget look into hoosiers. I have the 304's on my track car. They are street legal but just barely.

I run 17" Kumho VictorRacers and the Kumho v710's. The Victorracers have a more street looking tread but are [not] as sticky as the near slick V710's. Pricing was really good, but going up a bit. Still good wear and value IMO. These are more track tires, and I would say the v710's are closer to the Hoosiers. Check sized too, some holes in each.

I have PSE 17" BRM's on my GTD. 17X8 on the front and 17X10 on the rear. I used Teigo (sp) knock off adapters on my car. I have 245X40X17 front and 315X35X17 on the rear. Standard GTD MK1 body.

I needed to trim the front wheel arches a little but no big deal. They fit very well now and with no interference. I also run very low ride height. 4" front and 4.5" rear.
