Capt Martin Melia shot in the leg.

Hi Guys
I returned home at midnight Friday to find my mother and father who had come to tell me that my eldest son Captain Martin Melia had been shot in the leg earlier in the day, whilst fighting the war on terror in Afghanistan.
I would like to thank God that he will be ok and to say how proud I am of him and hope he is returned home soon.

My thoughts go out to all the parents of sons that don't make it back.

Regards

Chris Melia.

As much as anyone may (or may not) disagree with the purpose of the Afghanistan and Iraq occupation, it's a noble and decent person who responds to the call of his/her country by putting their own wellbeing on the line. Your son's dedication and courage is inspiring for all. Makes me think of the Winston Churchill quote "Never have so many owed so great a debt to so few."

I recently lost my older brother (Air Force pilot) to an airplane accident so I have some sense of the emotional response to injury and death in this manner. You're blessed because your son will live and you two will get to say the things that I wish I had had a chance to say to my brother before his passing. Tell those that you love that you love them, and do it today, for you never know how many days you will have together.

Hi Guys

On behalf of my family and son Martin, thanks for you good wishes and kind words.
As Cliff said you got to treat every time you see your family as special.

Regards
Chris.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. My daughter recently came back from a year in Iraq. She recently signed up for another six years also. Last week she found out they are in rotation to go back to Iraq in 2009. On behalf of myself, and my family we wish your son a speedy recovery, and a very special heart felt "THANK YOU" for his service.
Regards Brian

Chris,

I’m saddened to learn about the situation; both you and Martin are in our thoughts.

I hope Martin will be able to take the time he needs to relax and even spoil himself a little during a speedy recovery - and that the entire family will be able to spend some time together soon.

Best regards,

Tim

Thanks Guys

for your kind words they are much appreciated and make me realise that the members of this forum are a brotherhood with similar hopes aspirations and values.

Apparently another guy out there with my son was not so fortunate and lost his life, my sympathy's go out to his family also.

I am finding it hard to imagine just how difficult it is for our troops in these hostile far off lands, and hope that our leaders can find some way to restore our world to normality and peace soon.

Regards
Chris.
