I'm sure that there was some sort of agreement (chartered plane etc) and also a heads up to San Francisco ATC.

('Reminds me of your basic car chase wherein the T.V. 'chopper' pilot says, "Oooooooh!!! HE JUST CLEARED THAT CAR BY INCHES!!!", when in reality the fleeing car simply passed another car in the adjacent lane. :annoyed
