In looking for some parts to complete my build, I have come across this company. They are selling a lot of parts(bodys and MkI parts) for originals and replicas that want to use original parts. I have never heard of them, but maybe some of you have. I know a fair amount about the originals from my work on the "66 Road car". Most of what they have are good looking reproductions. I would like some imput from those of you in the know about these parts(and what they say). Here is the Blurb from there GT40 Parts page.

Cushman Competition is now offering the most accurate Ford GT-40 bodys

available on the market. We have duplicated the panels of a real FAV

built Ford GT-40 racecar. These panels are exact copies of the body from

chassis #1017. We possess the original panels as they were removed from

#1017. These had been modified in the years that it was raced, to allow for

improved wheels/tires and aerodynamics. Any purchaser is welcome to verify

the authenticity of the panels and the correctness of these bodys in our

shop. These bodys are complete with all inner panels. Beware of other

parts that don't include these inner panels. Our bodys are structurally

sound as Ford designed them. Don't be fooled by inferior suppliers. We also

maintain these in stock at all times. Feel free to contact us about shipping

options.

We are now producing additional parts for the MK I chassis. These parts

are being manufactured to exacting standards from the original blueprints.

In some instances, we have upgraded the materials. Each part is an exact

replacement that will fit original cars as a well as exact replicars.

We pride ourselves on supplying only the best parts to our customers.

Our parts are being used in the construction of our own GT-40. We understand

the importance of fit, quality and safety. You can trust Cushman Competition

to supply you with the most accurate and highest quality parts at realistic prices.

They even have some blocks and various parts, such as engine mounts etc. Check them out and let us know. Could be a good source?????

Bill,

Remember my sorry Racemate experience that I posted back in June? Jay Cushman offered to help out with supplying a secondhand unit and parts that he had. Despite several emails from me I could never get him to finalise anything.

Last week I won an ebay auction for a clutch that he had and asked again if we could do the Racemate deal and combine shipping etc. He replied that he had sold the Racemate locally last month.

Bummer, but I suppose if you had someone in your shop with money in their hot little hand you wouldn't turn it down, would you! Nevertheless he could have made good his offer some months ago and had his money a lot earlier!

Jay trades on ebay as "cushmancompetition" and has had around 1800 transactions with a feedback of 97.3%. Which is not up there with the best of them but was sufficient for me to deal with relative confidence. I won't know what the clutch is like until it gets out here in about three months time, but I have no reason to believe that there will be any problem.

I've no idea what his GT40 parts are like but thought my experience dealing with him may be relevant.

Cheers

Bill, I make the fiberglass GT40 MI bodies for Jay. if there is any questions about the GT bodies, I would be glad to help. I am finishing up a body today and hope to deliver it tomorrow or Friday. I'll put a good word in for Jay. I find Jay an honest guy to deal with. Would I love to have a shop like his, out in the middle of the woods with no one to bother you! Walking through his "stock room" is ming blowing! It looks like where all the real GT40, Can Am and Cobra parts go when they go to heaven. I've never seen so much real racing hardware in one place before. Amazing!

Bill come on up anytime you want as long as we are not off racing I am always open. I do have the original body of 1017 still here and that makes it real easy to compare my bodys with an original.. I doubt you can get that offer many other places. As far as my GT40 parts you could call any 1 of my 20+ customers from over the years with original GT40s or any 1 of the following forum members; Chris Melia. Doc Watson, Jimmy Mac, Andy Booth, Peter Hill, Pedro Pequero and many others with very near exact replicars. I am working on many more parts as we speak and will be finaly updating the website soon.

Sorry about the drift. I am in the last stages of my build(but the most expensive). I am updating my trailing arms as I was shown the ones on the car won't stand up to any stress at all. In looking around I had the arms rebuilt by Sheppard Race Cars. They are beefer and now completely adjustable on the car, as opposed to disconnect, adjust reconnect, check, do it again etc. I then decided to update the clevis's at the uprights, as they were in about the same state, loose and way to wide requiring washers. In searching I came across Jays site. Didn't look into his site to see if he was a member here as most of his stuff is either original, or top drawer reproduction. I am fighting with myself as to which I would rather have at the moment. A little more investigation will solve that for me. there are some great works of metal(and fiberglass) on his site.
I haven't updated my build thread in a while. Will do soon. Have a bunch of interesting pics. Right now, Sheppard's is building an exhaust setup for the car. If it is anything like the trailing arms it will be a work of art. Should be done in about a week. My engine builder just finished torquing all the final pieces together. Then he went out four wheeling and fractured a vertebra in his spine. So we will have to see how he comes along for the fire up and ignition/FI mapping.
