Drive shafts R21 to Granada.....HELP

I am hoping that someone can help me with my GT40 kit car project, I think I am what is called a “budget builder”, or as they say ‘skint’, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I have had my GT for some time, doing/buying as and when I can. I have now come up against a rather big problem (for me), mainly the drive shafts.
I need to connect a Renault 21 turbo gearbox to Ford Granada hubs and I have no idea what I need to do.
I have phoned one supplier here in the UK, their complete ‘kit’ would cost the best part of £700 from them and that is way above what I can realistically afford.
I do know that some builders have grafted Renault to Ford shafts with good results.
Now my questions.
1/. Is there anything or anywhere that I can find ‘specifics’ i.e. measurements, pictures, scale drawings, full explanation of how and what to do for this conversion/adaptation?
2/. Do you know of anyone that can supply the complete drive shafts with CV’s for (a lot) less cost?
3/. Do you know of anyone that may be selling second hand modified shafts and CV’s Renault/Granada that I could buy??
I am sort of desperate, the wife says I can keep the GT if it don’t cost too much more to finish and as I write this she is standing there with arms folded…………..you know what that means!
Any help with information or locating parts, new or second hand, would be very much appreciated, please mail me. [email protected]

Gary,
why not get some used components of each end that you need and find a driveshaft repairer and explain your problem. You do not need to go to some fancy high performance outlet with a fancy name to get a suitable job. He will need the overall length and amount of compression in the shaft. The website below will give you an insight into driveshafts.

Also do a search on driveshafts, there is a coy in europe called Elba.
I am not familiar with granada bits but if you cant find someone to sort it out, send me some photos and i may be able to give further assistance, albeit from a distance!!

The last time I replaced a cv joint (and I beleive it to be the Granada item) the price of £30 each comes to mind although not Ford OEM parts. The drive shafts should cost you less than £150 each. If a group purchase can be arranged these can come down to about £100 each. But this depends on which kit 40 you are building. Is it a GTD specification you are after? Add this lot up and you should be at around £350 (vat?)all in for new parts.

I would advise against 2nd user parts as you don't know the correct fitting and torsional twist already put into them and they are likely to break very quickly.

Hope this helps.

Oh and I also know the "look" wives can give. Had it happen when I fired up the car at 1 AM for an exhaust leak check! How was I supposed to know what time it was when I had been told not to wear my watch whilst working on cars? Really!
