Ebay GT40 UK

Hi guys

I met Guy Butler-Henderson in 2001 and he was interested in building a GT40 and he said he had not built one before?

This has got to be a scam

Chris.

this car was on ebay about two months ago and from what i can remember sold for around 19k...the car was bought by a guy in essex....this has to be a scam ...sounds like someone might loose 7k if they arnt careful...strange to use such a distinctive car to do a scam!!!!!!!!

I have emailed the chap who now owns the car to see if it is indeed him selling (as he lives up the road from me and NOT in Staffordshire...I doubt it)
If I get the all clear from the owner, I'm going to bid 30K on it and really spoil the scammers fun....the scumbag.

I have emailed this "gentleman" with a request to be "allowed" to bid on it. I will keep you posted on what happens.

AFTER the auction was pulled, I got this

Thanks for the interest in my car.
I'll explain the basics of this deal. As you know i intend to sell this car for £7,000. Don't be missled by the price, the car is in perfect condition, never sustained any damage, not even the most minor scratch. Always garaged and comes with a clean non-smoker interior.

I have everything ready for this sale and everything has been thought about. The car is now in the shipper's hands sealed in a container, waiting for it's future owner. It attended some car shows in Europe and now it is ready for the new owner. This will be like the last trip me and my second love will take. DAS Auto Shipping International will take care of the shipping process. I will take care of the shipping costs because it is not your fault this car is no longer at home.

For the payment process we'll use eBay so that both seller and buyer will feel secure. We will benefit from good service. The programs will grant you 5 days for inspection of the vehicle. The return policy says that if the car turns different from what i described after those 5 inspection days, the seller must return it on his cost. I am absolutely sure that won't be the case.

So... here were a few words about a future purchase... If interested, please reply and we'll go from there! Confirm you are a genuine seller by sending me your full name, address and the ebay user id. This will also enhance our communication and the transaction aswell.

Cheers
HEATHER FAULKNER-DUNN

Pretty standard stuff really, I was going to ask if people really fell for this, but I suppose if the scammers are still doing it, then they must be!

And this was the actual message sent out by EBAY concerning that seller: Please note, my italics and underlines. I too sent a message and I was warned thus. I'm not sure they could put it any plainer even if they said, "Hey, the guy is a scammer!"

"Our records indicate that you recently sent an email to or received an email from rhys-tigger through the eBay email system (for example, you may have sent an email to this member through Ask Seller a Question or received an email from this member through Contact eBay Member).

Sometimes eBay accounts are used to send email solicitations for transactions outside of eBay, or to send unrelated questions in hopes that you will respond so that the other party can obtain your email address. We wanted you to be aware of the potential fraud risk these solicitations pose and encourage you to be cautious about the email you received from this member.

Please keep in mind, sales that take place outside of eBay are not eligible for any eBay or PayPal protective services and you run the risk of losing your money or your item if you complete these transactions. On Monday evening I sent an email to ebay outlining my concerns that the auction was a scam. I explained why and that other people were concerned too. Maybe that helped to get it off, I hope so.

Hi there Simon, thanks for the warning!

That was my car!!

I bought it just before Christmas off ebay for £23,500.

I had a warning from ebay recently that they thought someone had compromised my account so I changed all the passwords etc straight away.

It's a shame, there's a lot of scammers on ebay at the moment, the common one is a java applet that modified the host file on your PC which sends you to a fake version of www.escrow.com and you guessed it, you send your money away to Bulgaria...

Not good.

Anyway thanks again for the warning!

Daniel
