I like the idea of welfare recipients having to pass drug tests to get those benefits. Sure, welfare may come in the form of a debit card that can be used to buy food at a supermarket, but even drug dealers have to eat so that card can be used to OBTAIN drugs if the barter can be made. It really galls me that welfare recipients might be using my tax dollars to get high.

When my daughter was little I managed three apartment complexes. We had a contract with the city that specified the city would pay all of the monthly rent except for $20.00...that way the tenant had to pay SOMETHING out of pocket for the apartment. The city paid the rest by check sent directly to the owners...so, that $$ could NOT be used to buy cigarettes or beer or drugs. I had no problem with that and actually the owner liked those rental agreements because the city paid on time every month. They had to inspect the apartment to make sure it met their requirements, but that inspection wasn't excessive in its demnads. We had some decent tenants...and then we had a few doozies.

I guess my take on the matter is that nobody should get a FREE ride...everyone ought to have to "sacrifice" somehow to make sure they have a secure roof over their head. If they don't want to do that, there's always the alleys and cardboard boxes and homeless they can stay with...if that's what they prefer...but at least at that point it's a choice and not just bad luck.

Cheers!

I couldn't make it past the 3 minute mark...'too depressing...

...and then there are the people over here who really know how to 'game' the system...not to mention the politicians who make it possible in the 1st place:

Union lobbyist who worked one day as a teacher suing Illinois for $30,000 pension | Fox News

"In 2007, he worked one day as a substitute teacher at a Springfield school. Under Illinois pension law, that one day in the classroom allowed him to qualify for a pension that would pay him for all of his years of work as a member of the union."

Well because Larry quoted Fox News and half the group who post here treat anything from Fox news with disdain I did a search and yes Bob it is true. I found it hard to believe also.
