Getting a grip on vertigo?

Went climbing at a couple of locations near Idyllwild with some friends a few years back. Scariest thing I have ever done, yet they thought it was a doddle.

And who was the first person to look at this crack and say "hey, I can climb up there using this!" And what type of drugs were they on?!?!

Sorry, I go for two feet firmly planted on level ground. A high speed corner in a '40 is nothing to cause anal puckering like this shit!

I'm with y'all on this although when I was younger I had no fear. Later on in life, wise words from my life-coach known simply as "Mother", would shape my future actions in this regard. She told me to: "keep your feet on terra firma, the more firmer the less terror".....

And so it was..

I climbed quite a bit when I was younger. Unlike the "terror" of watching someone do a hard route, when you are actually doing it, it is closer to a meditation. Concentrated attention is quite calming. On the other hand, I never had the confidence to do a hard route without good protection...

I love to climb, but will NEVER do what he does.

If you look closely enough, you can see the harness I am wearing (yes, we unroped once at the summit). Amazing places are accessible with some effort, and with less risk than your drive to work.

I agree that the drive to work is more dangerous, but I don't have a head for heights.
I always wondered how I could happily fly an aircraft but not go near the edge of a cliff.
Funny how ones brain works.
