For a second there, I thought it was the prototype put together by FAV in 1974 when Ford came out with the Mustang II with MPG in mind. Not really.

Really, someone must have been out of their mind when they did this one.

Except the Opel was front engined, wasn't it? At lease the Fiero was a mid-engine design. The Opel was a much better looking car, though (IMHO)!

V-8 Archie produces a GT40 replica using a SBC where the Fiero 4 banger was. I predict it would be a wild ride! You can check out their GT4T right here: V-8 Archie's GT4T

The V8archie GT4T is represented as a "...totally accurate Mk I body..."--sure looks more accurate than that one in Lynn's original post. You decide for yourself, I guess.

As for the styling, I, too, think it's far enough off that it's a no-go. Still, for those for whom authenticity is not important and who are willing to accept the obvious styling differences, one of these might just be the ticket. As far as cost, I think they are much less than our 40's--never cared enough to investigate that issue.

Yes, Doug, the Opel was front engine. I've heard rumors of a few V-8 transplants. I don't believe the car would need a V-8 based upon its size and weight though. Still believe the SHAPE of the Opel would lend itself to a prettier scaled down GT40 than the fiero based kits. It would solve the transaxle question.

Bit of a shame that monicker as I think the Opel GT was one of the prettiest and well proportioned cars ever made - certainly one of my all time favourites....

Nothing against the shape and styling of the Opal GT. I myself think it was a great looking car.

Met a nice blonde on an even numbered gas day in Portland in 1974. As it turned out, I got gas. She didn't. When we were out of the cars waiting in line for gas, turned out we were both down hill skiers. That weekend, she rode up to Mt. Hood, and we ended up being skiing partners. She had an Opal GT. I ended up fabricating a ski rack for her. Following weekend, she drove her car. Half way up the mountain, she spun it out of a patch of ice, and backed it into a ditch. Lucky, no damage to us, the car, or our ski gear. It was the last time I rode in her Opal GT.
