IMPORTS of traditional Scottish haggis have been banned in the United States since 1971. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has long objected to one of the key ingredients in haggis – sheep's lung. No food for human consumption, whether made locally in the USA or imported from overseas, can contain sheep's lung.

I think the great Jewish poet Rabbi Burns summed it up best:

Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o'fare,
Auld Scotland wantsnae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer
Gie her a haggis!

In my youth I was in the Schools Hebridean Society and went on four expeditions to remote islands.

A fellow member had a shot gun and was quite a good shot. A quail was fairly difficult to hit but the elusive Haggis was nigh on impossible, unless you crouched down behind a stone wall and caught them with both barrels as they burst over the top.

What a mess ... they would virtually explode, unedible as they splattered a fifty foot area !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There used to be a website called HaggisHunt.com that would show you screenshots from webcams in Scotland. Periodically a wild haggis would appear in one of the screens. If you spotted one, you could click on a button and you'd be entered into a contest for prizes.

The Enthusiast’s Cryptozoologicon tells us that the haggis is a member of the family of duck-filled phatypuds (of the genus umbrus), the group from which the Australian duck-billed platypus derives. The creatures are believed to be the descendants of a migrating group of phatypuds trapped in Europe during the last ice age. They evolved thick pelts and layers of blubber to survive in the cold damp conditions gripping the continent. So well did they adapt that they began to thrive and multiplied in huge numbers. But as the glaciers retreated and the melt waters dried, the haggis had to flee north to escape the rising temperatures. As the planet warmed, there were fewer and fewer habitats suitable for the haggii, needing as they did almost constant rain and a chill climate. Thus it was that Scotland became the only place in the world where haggii can be found."

I was always told their left legs were longer then their right legs because they preferred the steep slopes of a hill, subsequently they would always travel in a clockwise direction near the peak, so to catch one find a trail, set an ambush and wait, knowing which direction they travelled.
I wonder if they managed to make it to the southern hemisphere if their legs would have evolved the other way ensuring they moved in a counter clockwise direction around the hill top?
