Help required SBC Vortex heads/manifold

Hi

I have a SBC with vortex heads fitted. The problem I have is that I need to install 48 ida webers which come complete with the old style SBC manifold, I removed the vortex style Holly inlet manifold and tried to fit the old style inlet manifold but without joy. Is there anybody who can help? Is there anybody out there who specialises in modifying the old style SBC inlet manifolds to suite the new style Vortex heads?
Any help will be most appreciated.

Thanks

So your vortex heads will be the ones with the change in bolt angle where the intake attaches. In the past I have simply slotted the manifold bolt holes, then used a piece of alloy bar 0.75" od/ drilled to 0.40" id to make short spacers with slight angle cut on one end to match the angle change, plus longer bolts to enable fitment. Bit fugly, but it worked:)

Certainly, Jac Mac's method would work. When confronted with the need to use non-Vortec style intake manifolds in conjunction with Vortec-style heads, I've always found it easier to plug and re-drill the intake flange of the Vortec cylinder heads to accept the bolt pattern of the intake manifold.

In either case though, you do need to confirm that the taller (and usually somewhat narrower) intake port opening of the Vortec heads can be sufficiently contained within the sealing surfaces of the intake manifold you're planning to use.

Ditto here... Small wedges to allow the bolts to seat properly... Important to not use Stainless Steel bolts here. Use GR8 Steel instead as there is a bit of side-loading on the bolts.

Also - I did not encounter any issues with port alignment - you might want to look into matching the ports to the gaskets.. I use Fel-Pro 1205 for almost all engines except for the ones that are more than 500 HP or 400 Cubic Inches - then use the 1206 but be careful of leaks..

Price Motorsport do a good range of intake adapters, mostly Ford for the various deck height blocks, but I see they list a model AP-31 for SBC intake to Vortec Heads on an SBC block. Says it will be added soon but worth contacting them.

Good luck,
