I need new tires

Guys,

My original set of Avon Tires are getting thin, I looked back through this section, but I'm looking to see what tires folks are using.

My Avons are:

215/69R 15. 94v
295/50R 15. 108v

Any thoughts?

I think, and many will agree, the Avons CR6ZZ are the best for our cars (at least on 15").
But they come at a price.

My next set will definitely be Avon again.

Just my 2 cents...

For "legal" street use and some tracking the Avons are hard to beat. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

The other choice is the Mickey Thompson "S/R" (NOT the S/T) It is made on an Avon casing we are told (Cooper Tire owns both MT and Avon) and seems to ofer very good dry performance and decent wet also.

Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels

They are about half the price of the Avons and have become very popular with the Superformance Cobra guys. Radial, DOT and sold in "race" sizes (i.e. "26x10/15" rather than the metric rating)

If you're interested in in track days the Hoosier R6s will perform better than your Avons. They're DOT legal, however, do not drive them in the rain for street or track. I'm running my car on them and they work just fine driving around on the street as long as it is dry. Looking at about $225-$275 a tire, 225-50-15 up front, 275-50-15 in the rear. If track days aren't in your schedule then you'll probably want to skip this tire.

Jim,

I also find this hard to believe, but I have over 25,000 miles on them.

No track days, but I live on Skyline Blvd, a very nice, fast road. Every trip I make involves fast winding roads.

I do not light them up, but I do drive them hard. I'm very impressed with their life!

All four tires are wearing equally, front, rear, all even, right across the tread. Very impressive!

I very much like the look of the Goodyear Eagle billboard jobs, but I understand that they are not street legal and run kind of rough.

Does anyone have any experience with the Goodyears?
