JPs F40 Fire - Anybody know what happened?

Hi guys,

Havent been on here for a while, I just saw that the forum was changed quite a bit. Are all the old posts still here or archived somehow?

Reason I am asking is that I met a fellow car enthusiast who owns a F40. And I remember reading about JPs F40 being on fire because of a problem that apparently affected others of the same model. I would like to give the guy a heads up on what to look for in case there is any chance this could happen to his car as well.

Unfortunately I have not been able to locate a thread, although I did find some old pictures on my harddrive.

It would be great if someone could help me out.

Thanks!
Lukas

There was quite a long thread on this on Ferrarichat. If your frend went there and did a search he should find it.

I beleive it was something to do with the replacement fuel tanks allowing fuel to vent (somehow) over the hot turbos.

Some points for F40 owners.

The tanks MUST use the correct filler assembly and cap.

In my case the tanks were not at fault, BUT the actual filler assembly.

The flange connecting the filler assembly to the tank was not suitable.

Petrol was able to seep through the overlapping pipework into the sill where it was drawn into the engine bay and caught fire.

One very expensive mistake for the garage responsible.
